WASHINGTON (AP) --

In a concession to the Senate's new Democratic majority, four of President Bush's appeals court appointees have asked to have their nominations withdrawn, Republican officials said Tuesday.

These officials said that William Haynes, William Myers and Terrence Boyle had all decided to abandon their quest for confirmation. Another nominee, Mike Wallace, let it be known last month that he, too, had asked Bush to withdraw his nomination.

Reagan won in 1980 by being conservative.

Reagan wasn't near as "conservative" as the likes of you wrist slitters. In fact, when he was running, he was attacked by the "purist" in the party (but, hey, who hasn't been, right?).

And fyi nobody "debates" you anymore because you've been bitching about SOMETHING about the GOP since you signed up here.

You're never FOR anything, always AGAINST something.

Unfortunately for your side, it's just noise now, echoing around the empty shell of what the GOP has become.

The NOISE is coming from the likes of you who do nothing except bitch and moan because nobody agrees with you.

Time to put some substance back into the party if we want to win in 2008.

If by "substance," you mean listen to the likes of you, you've got a real shock coming; if you think the GOP didn't learn about counting on your type of vote you're crazy.

The GOP will now move to the middle to attract the moderates that are independent and/or Democrats to form a concensus out of MATURE people who aren't on the extremes of each end of the parties.

Finally the GOP has realized that even though they pander to you all, you cannot be counted on to put the country first, that you will always always find YET SOMETHING ELSE to be upset about -- and that you don't care enough about the country to put it before youself and your tunnel vision agenda.

Congratulations; you are now totally irrelevant.

And whatever you think of us, we would NEVER EVER let a Democrat get elected. Too bad you can't say the same.

Enjoy the next two years; you wanted it and you got it.

Conservatives don't drastically expand the government.

That is getting to be OLD; they do in a time of war, dimbulb.

It was the pathetic, do-nothing, corrupt GOP congress that had NO effective party leadership or discipline, one that abandoned the "conservative" principles they supposedly in lieu of raking in pork and K Street favors that cost us the election.

Watching our worthless GOP congress was like staring at a mud puddle and hearing it pronounced a Jackson Pollock.

Sorry, but people saw through the lies...

Next time (if there ever IS a next time) that the GOP is in control, I hope they remember the very hard lesson they learned--don't abandon your principles, don't shamelessly cower and curry favor from the liberal media that reviles you, fight the Dems like they're the enemy, not you Girl Scout buddy making s'mores with you at the campfire, and STAND FOR SOMETHING besides pork, corruption and feckless leadership.

And the GOP undercut them at every turn with their antics.

And that was far more damaging to the GOP re-election chances than any rogue poster on FR.

And it will continue to damage the election chances of the GOP as long as you and other GOP boosters look outward instead of inwards for the reasons the GOP went splat in 2006.

DB, you have that right again. Despite that, I held my nose and voted straight ticket. But I can understand why someone just was not motivated at all by the antics.

I run around in GOP circles around the Beltway. I would say many of the people who work in the field were g-d damned tone deaf. However, with so many of them cleaning out their desks and looking for new jobs, I have recently found many of them have admitted that it was their behavior and track record, so maybe its a start.

It's their responsibility to represent us, not ours to vote for them.

You said it.

Any pubbie who wallowed in pork undermined core GOP values and undercut the re-election chances of the party.

Agree with the first part of your statement. The moronic nature of too many Americans is what undercut the re-election chances. (Yeah, I hate the pork! Guess I'll vote for a Democrat!)

Very enlightening. We must stop supporting Repubs who have done all this dirt
and vote in Dems? We all know they never did anything like any of this. They are the party of what?--smaller govt.? welfare cutters? law and order? Oh, and of course they are for the children.

There are the realities you listed and the other realities we live with--Dems in power. Some of what you listed (most) happened on Repub watch but let's see what happens on Dems watch.

By the way, could you list the bad things that happened on Clinton's 8 year watch? I'll bet it is even longer and more egregious.

Much of what the Repubs did was because they had a slim majority and too many RINOS. WE need more Rick Santorums which the wise PA citizenry got rid of because he speaks too much truth.

That's a bald-faced lie, Howlin. Please show me a single post during the last campaign where I said vote against the GOP House and Senate members. I instead said their re-election was vital.

But since they lost, NOW is the time to figure out what went wrong. And you are not part of the solution - instead, attitudes such as yours are the lion's share of the problem.

So since you lie about me, and are now an obstructionist to trying to fix what is wrong with the GOP, please - continue not to ping me or FYI me. You can continue to working within your ever-shrinking circle of GOP denialists.

We are NOW totally irrelevant? Conservatives have been irrelevant for six years now. What difference if we're irrelevant under a Marxist congress instead of a Marxist imposter congress?

Did you even READ what Ronald Reagan said about comprimise? What part of that don't you get?

Was that intended for me? (I agreed with you and RR)

Yeah, Ronnie said if you get 80% or so, fight later.

The Rs gave me *maybe* 10% of what I want. The Rs were Liberals. Fighting liberalism means fighting Rs as well as Ds, these days.

Republicans in my neck of the woods lost in November because the center abandoned Republicans due to the War and Immigration. Our republican turnout was as large and loyal as it had been since 1994.

You are on the money. I also think the minimum wage issue that was on so many state ballots hurt badly.

But we have to find a way to frame the immigration issue in a way not to offend hispanics, or we are bound for permanent minority status, and Presidet Clinton II.

Well, reading through the posts in this thread, and many others here on FR, one thing is very clear:

The liberals have the conservatives exactly where they want them, which is where the conservatives thought the liberals were just a couple years ago.

Conservatives are splintered now, attacking each other, blaming each other. For years we waited for the inevitable splintering of the Democrats numerous groups, yet it never materialized. Now, it seems it is the conservatives that are cracking up. Blame the politicians, blame the voters, blame each other.

Reality check: Everyone is too blame. Politicians, voters, non-voters alike. But no matter how you cut it (or blame it) it is always the VOTERS who decide the type of government we have so it MUST be the voters that take the brunt of the blame.

Reading posts that now say "Your side" this and "My side" that is disturbing, when all along I thought we were all on the same side.

Silly me.

Why would you elect liberal democrats to replace a not conservative enough republican Congress? CORRUPT liberal democrats BTW.

Your comment that teyh Congress was corrupt shows you sold your brain to the MSM. This was not a corrupt Congress. Now you will see corrupt.

Speaking of Jim Robinson:

To: Howlin

There's always a certain percentage that will sit home or go another way. No biggie. My advice is to ignore them. Concentrate on recruiting those who see the larger picture and will help us hold the White House in '08 and win back the majority in congress! We must continue destroying the tyrants and terrorists wherever they rear their ugly heads and we must contine rebuilding the Judiciary. We know that our country and our Liberty itself is at risk if RAT Hillary or Benedict Arnold McCain wins the presidency, especially if they have a RAT congress behind them.

We're all conservatives here. We support our country, support our president, support our military, support our constitution and support our traditional American values. Thank God for America! Down with tyranny and tyrants the world over! Thank God for Liberty!
