Even those of us who are not reflexively suspicious of government handouts for large corporations should indeed be very skeptical of a German automaker (Daimler-Chrysler) asking for U.S. financial assistance when they will be marketing Red Chinese-manufactured cars.

I am a long-time Chrysler owner ('65 300, '79 Diplomat, a half-dozen Darts, a Plymouth Voyager and now an '89 Fifth Ave.) who will probably go GM next time. (I buy very used so they won't miss my business.
