"You are Privileged to be an American"

"You are privileged to be an American"

I just heard these words from an unexpected source.

I had called for technical support regarding my wireless router. I had to wait for a computer function to run, and while I waited the young man I was speaking with asked where I was from. From my "accent" he had guessed that I was an American, and I confirmed to him that I was. That is when I heard those words, and they are so true.

He said that some people would be willing to kill to get here if necessary. He spoke of the beauty of America, but I thought of our freedom and the wonderful opportunities that I have been afforded because I am prvileged to be an American.

He was from the Phillipines, and he loves it when Americans call in for assistance. He ended the conversation by thanking me for being patient and polite.

What a lovely experience! Sometimes it takes a stranger to make us reflect on things we already know and feel.

At one time, this was the attitude of nearly all immigrants.. that's up until the US allowed itself to become the social welfare program for Mexico.

Too cool.

He said that some people would be willing to kill to get here if necessary

Ya shoulda told him that we don't want the one's who will kill to get here, but the one's that are willing to die, to protect freedom, are more than welcome.

I wish the anti-American Americans could live overseas for a time. Then they might appreciate what they have and try to protect and presserve what we have. But liberals usually bitch and moan, have no reasonable or realistic solutions, and take the easy, cushy way out while taking advantage of everything that others have made possible.

It's my opinion that his statement is closer to the truth of world opinion about the US and about Americans... the 'real truth' that is, before the MSM 'edits' the views of the rest of the world for mass broadcast.

I don't know. My liberal friend and her husband were at a shop in Montreal (not really overseas but different anyway!) and stood there in agreement while he derided Americans and the United States. I took her to task on that...it really disgusted me. To stand there and take that crap and agree with it while the shop owner gladly accepts your AMERICAN cash...disgusting.

We're far from perfect but I will never allow anyone to speak like that of the land that I love.

All the complainers in this country need to swap places with someone like this for a week.

I've got a buck they wouldn't make it three days!

In the meantime, anyone and everyone comes here and we roll out the red carpet. In fact, try a stunt like that with someone visiting here or a foreign born and you will be charged with a hate crime.

Sadly; their heroes that they live vicariously through (i.e., Chevy Chase, Danny Glover, etc) visit Cuba and tell them what a paradise it is. Of course their heroes are sheltered from reality.

They stood there and agreed with him and spent their American cash in his shop. She even mentioned moving to Montreal partly because of Canada's healthcare system. Yes, she was serious...I still chuckle.

The celebrities who say hateful things about America, and move to other countries don't have a realistic view of what those countries are like to live in. They go with their millions of dollars and buy mansions and castles. They have waiters and maids that are paid exploitive wages that would be illegal in America. They never had to farm there, or try to make a living by the sweat of their brow.

Most Canadians do not even know why they hate Americans -- they just follow along with whatever they hear! Spare me the details, I live in Canada and from what I've heard the average Canadian is just regurgitating. They hate George Bush and their same reply everytime is "He's a war mongerer." or "He's stupid". That's about as deep as they go!

I was on a Napa winery tour shortly after the 2004 election. While were waiting to get back on the bus, we were in small groups engaging in polite small talk. A retired man from MO, upon hearing an Australian accent, inserted himself into a conversation our party was having. He introduced himself, proceeded to denounce Bush, the "fools" that voted for him, and asked if there was room enough for "his kind" to move "down under" to escape.

He had unwittingly approached my Australian sister-in-law. I stepped over to her, extended my hand and introduced myself. I stated that I was the complete opposite of the man she had just met. I continued on that I loved Australia and its people nearly as much as I do my own. I pointed out that while Australians are sometimes derided as "a coarse people" (especially among the elites in the UK), we definitely have our share of them as well- they are just sometimes indiscriminant in their exercise of their right of freedom of speech. I welcomed her to the USA, thanked her for the strong allegiance our nations share and that I was quite fond of Prime Minister Howard.

She flashed a smile but did not let on that we were not strangers. She embraced me, said it was very good to be in America, that a good man was re-elected and (while looking at the intrusive man) stated that she "hoped to meet a good many more of the sixty million".

Had he a tail, it would have been between his legs as he slunk back to his rather embarrassed-looking wife...

I wish the anti-American Americans could live overseas for a time.

So do I. Being born and raised in the freeest country on earth, they have grown up spoiled. They have no real concept of tyranny.

They ought to live in Havana Cuba, or anywhere in North Korea for an extended period of time. No joke.

I recall reading the story of one guy who escaped to Cuba (I cant recall if he hijacked a plane and or robbed a bank), only to regret his decision, and decided that he would rather face jail time in the United States than walk free in the streets of Havana. He did indeed return to the US and went to jail.

I remember that. I think he was a Black Panther who hi-jacked a plane to Cuba. He got out and changed his political stripes. Can't remember his name.
