More suspects arrested in trooper death

The trail of suspects connected to the murder of a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer in Tipton County has led to a man and woman in Austin, Texas, linked to the rental of a car used by the pair charged in the trooper’s death. The man in Austin, identified as Emilio C. Fernandez, 34, is being held at the Travis County Jail in Austin on unrelated felony theft and probation violation warrants, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced.

Investigators also searched a trailer in the Austin area where a 17-year-old charged in the trooper’s death lived. In the trailer they found marijuana and cocaine residue, other drug paraphernalia and a roll of plastic wrapping commonly used to package large amounts illegal drugs, the TBI said. "It is my full belief that there is a larger drug operation connected to this case that has yet to be revealed," TBI Director Mark Gwyn said in a statement.

"Our agents will not rest until all of the pieces of this puzzle have been put together, and we know exactly what was going on," Gwyn said.

Saturday night, Trooper Calvin Jenks, 24, was shot and killed after stopping a 2006 Toyota Corolla on Tenn. 14 southwest of Tenn. 54. The car had been rented in the Austin area.

Following a manhunt that led to Brownsville and Nashville, on Sunday morning investigators arrested Orlando Daniel Garcia, 19, and Alejandro Chevo Gouna, 17, both from the Austin area, at a Nashville motel.

On Tuesday both were charged with first-degree murder — Garcia as an adult and Gouna as a juvenile in General Sessions and Juvenile Court in Covington.

Dist. Atty. Mike Dunavant said he will request that Gouna’s case be transferred to adult court.

The funeral for Jenks, who joined the highway patrol in 2004, was held Wednesday in Maury County.

By chance, are these Illegals they've arrested for the death of the TN Trooper?

Thanks for posting that. I was following this story.

Family, Colleagues Honor Slain Trooper

He [Jenks] was shot in the head at close range minutes after making the stop. Two suspects believed to be involved in a drug smuggling operation were charged with the crime.
Two teens face murder charges in trooper's death
Garcia's statement revealed a discussion he had with Gouna at the scene of the traffic stop before Jenks approached their vehicle.

"What do you want to do?" Gouna asked.

"Let's see what happens," Garcia responded.

The videotape from Jenks' cruiser indicates the teens tried to steal his flashlight before shooting him.

According to charging documents, Garcia told police Jenks was shot so the teens could avoid being arrested.

In the articles I have read about this I haven't seen any mention of their status.

You know, the local media hasn't even asked that question. They are being reported as "two teens" like we are talking about 13 or 14 year-olds. Too PC it seems to ask.

Local talk show host in Memphis Mike Fleming says yes they are illegals and it will be in press be the end of this week.

So, are the perps really FROM Austin? Or, are they from Mexico, VIA Austin?

Alejandro Chevo Gouna, 17, is led to the hearing by Tipton County Sheriff J.T. "Poncho" Chumley.

Orlando Daniel Garcia, 19, listens to Judge William Peeler at the county justice building. Garcia has implicated Alejandro Chevo Gouna as the shooter, said officials.

I see what you mean. Good question, one the media will certainly never divulge.

Isn't it common for drug runners to hire young "mules" to do the trafficking?

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Calvin Jenks. Jenks, 24, was shot during a traffic stop on Tenn. 14, southwest of Tenn. 54, according to footage from the video camera in Jenks' patrol car. One bullet struck the trooper in the head.

In many articles it states they are not. They had drivers license and the shooter's juvenile record is sealed in Austin.
He also goes by another name. The older one didn't have a record and both are trying to have parents get them lawyers. I
would bet their parents are illegal and won't come up with money unless they are part of the drug ring behind this.

The trooper was shot in the head, Carolyn, for a traffic stop.

If they are illegals, these perps SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN THIS COUNTRY.

I wonder if families of slain and wounded police officers, whose attackers have been illegals, should get together in a lawsuit against the United States Department of Justice/USCIS/Homeland Insecurity...?

Orlando Garcia's father says he thought he raised his son right. The family can't beleive what they are hearing from the police and through the media about their 19-year old son.

Garcia had a full scholarship to a Houston art college and is also known as a good athlete.

"He used to play quarterback and he was pitcher for LBJ and never got into trouble," says a high school teammate.

Both Garcia and Guana went to the same high school in Austin, but people who know 17-year old Guana give a far different description of this teen. They say Alejandro Guana only went to school now and then.

TBI says Guana has a lengthy criminal record. They think the two teens were running drugs from Texas to Tennessee.

At these punks' ages, their parents might also have been covered by the Reagan amnesty. We tend to focus on the people who continue to stream across the border as stirring up trouble... but there are many of these former "anchor babies" who are just as unassimilated and just as large a problem.

I know, Dita and this kind of thing is increasing around the country. Yet we have people representing us more interested in worry about executive compensation than the spiraling crime rate wrought by illegals.

Actually some statistics I have read indicate the second, third and subsequent generations are more prone to crime because of lack of fully assimilating into our society.
