North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Sunday that the United States' decision to place stealth fighter-bombers undetectable by radar in South Korea is a dangerous sign that indicates a prelude to war. The KCNA reported that the United States had decided to deploy fifteen F-117 stealth fighter-bombers to South Korea in late May, and said that it was obviously a dangerous sign that foretells the outbreak of a war. An official at the U.S. Forces in Korea said last Thursday that the deployment of stealth bomber to South Korea was part of a continuing rotation of forces to get airmen acquainted with the geography of the Korean Peninsula and operational plans, the North Korean news agency reported. Aren't F117's usually sent in ahead of other air units because their stealth capabilities allows them to knock out SAM sites and such? I believe they were heavily used in that capacity in the Iraq conflict(s).

the F-117 operates (by far) most effectively as a bomber, but it was the product of Have Blue- the intent of which was to produce a fighter, not a bomber. Thus the F- designation. Or at least that's what I seem to recall.

Thanks, that's also my understanding, va. Just wanted to point out, esp since it was a translation, that we are sending ground attack ac, not dogfighters. ;>)

Interestingly enough, the F-22s from Langley will be deployed to Kadena AFB in Okinawa for the next few months. Combine that with the F-117 deployment....could be coincidence....or not......

It can carry a whole two bombs. But those can be 2,000 pounders.

It should properly have been the A-19. "A" for "attack", not "B" for bomber.
