Mexico orders Taiwan president's plane out - report

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico ordered a plane carrying Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian to leave its air space this week at the request of China, which regards Taiwan as a breakaway province, a Mexican newspaper said on Saturday.

Chen was flying over Mexico on his way back from Wednesday's inauguration of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega when his plane was directed to leave Mexican air space and make a detour on its way to a stopover in Los Angeles, the El Universal daily said.

Nicaragua has diplomatic relations with Taiwan and receives large amounts of aid from it, but Mexico does not recognize Taiwan and instead has ties with China.

The plane made a detour and continued to Los Angeles and then Taiwan, the Taiwanese news agency CNA said.

El Universal quoted unnamed Mexican government officials as saying China had asked Mexico to force the plane out of its airspace.

An official at Mexico's foreign ministry said she could not comment and transport ministry officials could not be reached.

China and Taiwan have faced off since 1949 when defeated Nationalist forces fled to the island at the end of a civil war with the communists. Beijing discourages diplomatic contacts with Taiwan that might be seen as even tacit recognition of its government.

China's embassy in Mexico was unable to confirm details of the incident but said Mexico's position was unsurprising.

"Mr. Chen Shui-bian, the so-called president, is a separatist of the homeland. The Mexican government maintains the policy of only one China," said Sun Yi, a senior diplomat at the embassy.

Nicaragua's Ortega, a former Marxist guerrilla, said this week his government would carry on normal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, even though he is part of the growing group of leftist leaders in Latin America.

And guess who "owns" the Canal? Thanks to Jimmy Karter and the soft-headed congress.

This is just another reason that unchecked illegal immigration is so dangerous to the United States. Whose side do you think our illegal guests will be on when China makes its move on Taiwan and by proxy the United States?

That deserves to be said again.

Our government barks and Mexico thinks it's the sound of a Chihuahua.

And we sit by and watch as China gets cozy with Venezuala, and drills for oil in Florida Straights. Not to mention the flood of leftist governments in South America. Then we have China in the Sudan, clearing oil fields through mass murder. They play the same game in Iran. BUT, as they slowly grab up oil interests throughout the world, they will need Iran less and less.

Interesting that he was welcomed by Nicaragua, which is installing a Communist president, but barred by Mexico, which is intalling its second "conservative" president.

I wonder how long Nicaragua will remain in the Taiwanese column?

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

One of the biggest mistakes any president has ever made was when Truman fired MacArthur instead of taking his advice.

We should have disposed of the Chicoms when we had the bomb and they didn't back in the late 40's or early 50's.

(Just like HST and Ike should have listed to Patton in 1945 about taking on the Russians then and there when we and only we had the bomb.)

I agree completely. I wish Truman would have to told the UN to stick it. We could have been done with that mess before it was even started.

You have it wrong. The MSM has led us all to believe that it is the USA that is the oil imperialist.

It is conceivable that the mexicans are racing the muslims to see who can infiltrate, breed, and in any way expand their presence here. When that number reaches a critical mass, expect an invasion. 'Red Dawn' come to mind?

So "made in China" and "made in Mexico" is synonymous.

Yup. And Mexico is the stop off point for illegal Chinese who are interested in coming here without bothering to get permission.

Oh yeah I forgot, that wasn't very multi-cultural of me to point out that the commies are eating up very valuable resources. Since they are communist I am sure they just want to make sure it is all handed out in the most even handed manner.

IS TAIWAN A POSSESSION OF THE UNITED STATES?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1462461/posts

... Taiwan is legally an overseas possession of the United States of America.
... The Japanese Government's control over Taiwan ceased on August 15, 1945 when it announced its surrender in World War II. The Instrument of Surrender was signed on the deck of the USS Missouri on September 2, which placed "all Japanese forces wherever situated" under the command of "the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers," Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

That day, McArthur formed the United States Military Government with jurisdiction over Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. General Order No. 1 of the USMG included the directive that all Japanese commanders and forces in Taiwan (called Formosa) "shall surrender to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek," leader of the recognized legal government of China, the Republic of China (ROC). These forces then surrendered to ROC commander Chen Yi on October 25, 1945.

But the Instrument of Surrender was an armistice, not a formal peace treaty. Japan had not ceded Taiwan to the ROC. The legal authority in Taiwan remained the United States Military Government, which had delegated - delegated, not relinquished - the military occupation of Taiwan to the ROC.
