Bomb plot Muslims were under police surveillance, court told

Muslim extremists accused of launching failed suicide bomb attacks on London in July 2005 had been under police surveillance months earlier, a court was told yesterday.

If the alleged plot had succeeded it would have caused carnage on the capital's transport system for the second time in a fortnight, the court was told.

Manfo Asiedu, Muktar Said Ibrahim and Ramzi Mohammed

The co-ordinated attempt at suicide bomb attacks on three Underground trains and a bus, two weeks after the July 7 attacks that claimed 52 lives, failed only because the home-made bomb mixture was not strong enough, it was claimed. They were not copycat attacks, the jury at Woolwich Crown Court was told, because they had been planned before the first set of bombings brought terror to London's commuters and tourists.

"The ultimate objective was to carry out a number of murderous suicide bombings," Nigel Sweeney, QC, prosecuting, told the jury at the high-security Woolwich Crown Court.

Yassin Omar, Hussain Osman and Adel Yahya

One man, Muktar Ibrahim, 28, had actually turned so that the rucksack on his back was pointing towards a mother with her child in a pushchair as he tried to detonate the bomb in a tunnel on the Victoria Line causing "panic, fear and confusion".

The detonators went off, but the hydrogen peroxide and chapati flour mixture, surrounded by nuts and bolts to cause maximum damage and carnage, did not ignite, Mr Sweeney said.

The men made their escape, one of them later adopting a woman's burkha to flee the country. But they were arrested by police in a series of raids over the next two weeks.

I'm sure their lawyers will paint them as victims of the "racist british society".

The men made their escape, one of them later adopting a woman's burkha to flee the country.

I watched a pretty good British film titled "Dirty War"

In the movie, a group of muslim terrorists set of a conventional bomb which spread nuclear powder, across downtown London.

Very sovering. I am not qualified to judge the technical feasibility of the portrayal.

They were under surveillance but still managed to pull the trigger.
That's some good police work there.
