A chain of insolvent medical performances aggravated the state of Castro

A Cuban diplomat says that he undergoes “healing problems”

One burdens infection in the heavy intestine, at least three insolvent operations and several complications maintain the Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro, postrado with very serious prognosis, according to medical sources of the hospital Gregorio Marañón of Madrid. In this center Jose works Luis Garci'a Sabrido, head of the service of Surgery, that traveled to visit Fidel Castro in last December. Garci'a Sabrido discarded that Castro undergoes cancer. A Cuban diplomat admitted yesterday that Castro undergoes “healing problems”.

According to the consulted sources, Castro, of 80 years, underwent before the summer (it transferred the power in July) a severe inflammation of the heavy intestine denominated diverticulitis. One is anomalous bags in the intestine inflamed that can arrive to become infected and to bleed, causing hemorrhages, of form similar to an appendicitis. According to the Brazilian journalist Claudia Furiati, author of the authorized biography of Castro history will acquit to me, published in 2001, Castro already suffered diverticulitis for more than 20 years.

In this occasion, nevertheless, Castro has suffered this disease of more severe form. In summer, the Cuban leader bled of abundant form by the intestine. This adversity took to the table of operations, according to the same medical sources. Its state, in addition, was agravated because the infection extended causing a peritonitis, the inflammation of the membrane that covers the digestive organs. In this first operation, the surgeon came to retire a part to him of the heavy intestine, the sigma, and another one of the rectum, the most affected by the diverticulitis. The surgeon had to choose between two procedures: first he consists of a ileostomía, the opening of an artificial anus in the abdomen during weeks while the part of the affected colon recovers. During this period, the patient evacuates in a stock market until one second intervention connects the heavy intestine with the rectum to recover natural dynamics. The surgeon, however, decided on the second technique, that connects the colon directly transverso (the central part of the heavy intestine) with the rectum.

The evolution of Castro was not good. The infection that suffered prevented that the joint between the colon and the rectum healed and its abdomen was flooded of lees, causing another peritonitis. In one second intervention, the doctors cleaned and drained the infected zone, suppressed all the heavy intestine and they made an artificial anus to him.

After the second operation, Castro did not heal either well. In addition, its health worsened with an affection in the biliary route. One of the medical sources indicates that it underwent a alitiásica colecistitis (an inflammation of the biliary vesicle and the biliary routes that is also attributed to the lack of sanguineous irrigation and to the surgical manipulation). This situation has a highest mortality (around a 80%). Another source indicates that the ailment of Castro forced to implant in the biliary route a small prótesis made in Korea. But this one failed and had to be replaced by another one of Spanish origin.

In December, when Garci'a Sabrido visited to him, one doubted if to put under Castro to another operation. The patient had a wound in the abdomen that released to the flowed day more than half liter of (proteins, liquids and ions), which inflict casualties “severe of nutrients”. Castro underwent a regression of its muscular mass and has required intravenous feeding.

A Cuban diplomat admitted yesterday in Quito (Ecuador) that Castro undergoes “healing problems” which they prevent his recovery, informs Reuters.

Perhaps he should try that new traction method (not without some risk.... decapitation. Talk to your doctor first) that dictators in Iraq have been trying.

It's just funny on so many levels. Amazing that it would happen in an article about the "great" anti-capitalist hero

P.S. pinging livius to an amazing babelfish castellano/english translation.

I'm confused. I thought the world's best health care was in that egalitarian paradise, The People's Republic of Cuba? If so, why is El Dictatore going to Spain for medical care?

IIRC, Spain was a principal instigator of the prosecution of Pinochet, yet they are trying to save Castro's miserable life. What hypocrisy!
