Schools must look at how they educate children regarding tolerance and fairness.

Yep, let's teach the little kiddies that murdering muslim bastards are just as good as everyone else.

("Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it." )

Sounds English.

When I say Rudy is "too European" to be the GOP nominee, its stuff like this that stands out, among other things.

Rudy is again standing up for Israel and against the growing anti-semitism in Europe, and you fault him for that?

Yes, I fault him for caving to political correctness. He shows himself to be a Eurocosmopolitan on this issue, rather than a red blooded American constitutionalist.

The last New Yorker who deserved the Presidency was Alexander Hamilton, and he has been dead for over 150 years. The worldly, morally ambiguous mileau of that city is not conducive to Americanism, to say nothing of fidelity to constitutional principles.

There's the money quote.

---"That is why, immediately after those assaults, I made it clear that the city would not tolerate the blaming of groups for the terrorists' actions"---

Sorry, dude. Your "ends justify the means" defense doesn't sell here. You truly have to be a liberal sympathizer to try and side with Rudy on this one.

At the heart of it, this isn't about anti-semitism. It is about using the coercive power of the state to compel people to think like its leader--or at least to fear to think unlike him.

Rudy is a man of strong passions and many dislikes. Anti-semitism is just one. Hate crime legislation is a "one tool fits all" for advancing his social liberal purposes.

Nobody faults him for standing up to anti-semitism.

It's that he seemingly wants to criminalize it that is a huge problem.

I have to disagree. Given Rudy's lifelong record of unflinching support for Israel, and his battle against anti-semitism and terrorism, that is the issue.

The rise in anti-semitism, and the rise in support for terrorists in Europe is something that gets ignored pretty much by the MSM. It is a huge threat.

Your hate Hillary fetish blinds you to the disaster Giussolini would be.

You would give a former zealous prosecutor like Giuliani the full control of the awful, crushing, overwhelming power of the federal government to punish so-called hate crimes? That doesn't trouble you at all?

Having lived in Europe for a long time, you have to understand that anti-semitism and hatred for Israel is not a "thought crime", but a real crime against real people. Against people, and against Jewish institutions like synagogues and cemeteries.

People can think whatever they like, no matter how vile. When they start to put their vile thoughts into action, into assaults, murders, and vandalization of religious sites, it is time to stand up and be counted.

Giussolini

Nice. That really adds to the discussion, using the spelling of Rudy's last name to Mussolini.

There's no need to stoop into the gutter.
