Regarded by many as the leading opponent of illegal immigration in Congress, Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado announced today he's taking a step toward a presidential run with the launch of an exploratory campaign committee.

"I'm going to do so because I believe there is a void in the present panoply of people seeking that office," Tancredo said this morning on the Fox News Channel program "Fox and Friends."

The 2008 Presidential primary was once a barren wasteland. Now conservatives have a choice. Personally I am going to support Ron Paul because he is a more across the board Constitutionalist, but Tancredo is clearly my second choice.

Tancredo may not win, but the right issues will now become part of the debate. And that's very very good!

Wouldn't Tancredo be a better choice to run for Allard's seat now that he's retiring? His current path will leave him out of office altogether come 2009.

The is going to be an all out effort to make Tancredo the issue, not the border.

Dane, where are you? I'm sure he'll show up, I think he punched in on the clock a few minutes ago.

I like Ron Paul too. But I don't understand why he doesn't support the WOT.

I have to read more on Tancredo. I like that he is anti illegal immigration. But I don't understand why he has not introduced an amendment to Clinton's '97 amendment that granted Mexicans dual citizenship.

I also like Duncan Hunter and fully support him.

I'm disappointed that Frank Keating backed out.

Mr. Trouble never hangs around
When he hears this mighty sound...
"Here I come to save the day!"
That means that Mighty Tom is on the way.
Yessir when there is a wrong to right
Mighty Tom will join the fight
On the sea or on the land
He gets the situation well in hand
So though we are in danger
We never despair
Cause we know that where there's danger
He is there!
He is there!
On the land!
On the sea!
In the air!
We're not worryin' at all
We're just listenin' for his call
"Here I come to save the day!"
That means that Mighty Tom is on the way!

With Hunter and now Tancredo in, the debates will be a gas.

I can't wait to see Julie-Annie trying to defend his defenseless Sanctuary City Policy and the lawsuit he filed against the US Gubmint. And the same for John 'Amnesty for All' McInsane.

Gotta get a lot of popcorn :-)

To paraphrase the great Ronald Reagan "Here we go again".

Ron Paul is not a Republican, he is a Libertarian who has the same view of defending the United States as Nancy Pelosi. Next.

Tancredo is a one issue candidate and to alto of people he is wrong on that issue. His rants against Latinos in the debates will be an embarrassment. You can be against illegal immigration without being a kook, Tancredo should stay in Colorado and pander to his xenophobe base.

Hunter, I have stated this countless times, no base, no ideas, no chance.

There is a reason none of these guys would be considered front runners. Think about it.

This guy is a one trick pony.

If the GOP cannot do better than him, then the DEMs will control all three branches of government within four years.

That is assuming he loses. If conservatives demand a better alternative than McCain, Romney, or Giuliani or the amnesty supporting conservative pretenders Brownback and Huckabee, then Tancredo could do very well.

I hope Paul emerges as the conservative alternative, but Tancredo is leagues better than the other 5 charlitans I named above.

Is that supposed to be some kind of intelligent debate?

Let the smear merchants show their true colors.

There's no need to smear Tancredo.

If he ever gets serious national TV time, voters will recognize him immediately for what he is: a self-important one-issue blowhard.

The things he says and the way he says them turn most people off, and he can't help himself.

People will also compare his advertised positions to the sources of his campaign financing the way they scrutinize every other candidate.
