A US radio station has fired 10 staff after a stunt resulted in a woman dying from water intoxication in a bid to win a games console.
Jennifer Lea Strange, 28, from California, was one of 18 people who competed last week for the prize of a Nintendo Wii by seeing how much water they could drink without going to the toilet.
The Morning Rave DJs - who were all sacked yesterday when the show was scrapped by the KDND-FM station - called the contest "Hold your wee for a Wii".

What a stupid stunt...but she drank the water herself. Nobody was pouring it down her throat were they? I don't know the legalities here but stupid stunts arte what drive time dj's get paid to do. I don't think they should have fired these folks.

This is a Lawyer's Wet Dream!
Perfect! Advertising client wants exposure. Staffers come up with gimmick. Management approves, or at least doesn't stop it. Gimmick runs. Person dies as a result. Staffers fired. The world sucks sometimes, doesn't it?
Here's the original thread from a couple of days ago, before the firings.

When told on-air by a caller that what they were doing could kill these people, the DJs said: "We're aware of that. We made them sign releases, so we're not responsible. It's OK."
GUILTY!!!
Oh, wait...not THAT kind of thread...
Darwin ... white courtesy phone please
Those poor children.
as I was on about earlier......"water intoxication" is a misnomer. Water is not toxic.
But abusing water can flush essential electrolytes. It is a sad commentary for this pathologist to have used a non-medical term......it demonstrates his disdain for the lay general public. And now that this myth os "water intoxication" is being propagated so widely, I expect that in the near future many kids will try to het "high" on this alleged "toxicant" that is free and legal.
Watch for kids to be dying of water-induced electrolyte depletion.
Actually one of their listeners called in and warned them of the danger. They stated (on tape) that they knew of the risk and that their lawyer said they were not liable for anyone who died as of a result of it.
That makes the DJ's a couple of heartless jerks...put it doesn't take the ultimate responsibility away from the 'victims'.
Another senseless poisoning with the dangerous chemical, di-hydrogen monoxide, when will this madness end?
Horrible. How sad for the children.
