As usual the Maryland legislature, not content with already having a high murder and mayhem rate, seeks to outperform DC by limiting access to protection for even more citizens.

Neighborhing Virginia, with a far lower murder and mayhem rate, has "open carry" and "shall issue" laws on the books, and is looking for even more ways to deregulate weapons so that these rates drop further.

Is there any way we can prohibit Maryland people from visiting Virginia (except, of course, to shop at Wal-Mart).

Not only assault rifles, assault pistols.

Any pistol or rifle that can take a clip of over 10 rounds!

Great Idea!!! Let's leave the criminals alone, but put the guns in jail!

Idiots.

They sure are scared of copycats. The bill reads like a 5th grader wrote it. To bad the citizens don't issue them a double dare.

" Not only assault rifles, assault pistols."

Assault "pistol" is changed to "weapon" in this new bill. Assault "weapon" is:
"A semi-automatic pistol that can accept a detachable magazine and ANY of the following: 1. A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer:..."

It is not written, "that has a threaded barrel, but, "can accept". MOST semi autos "can accept" a threaded barrel. I can buy one for my Walther P99, PPK and others in my collection.
This bill will effectively ban ALL semi auto handguns AND ling guns.
The Peoples Republic of Maryland is at it again and with a gun foe Governor AND legislature, no doubt this WILL pass this year.

Hmmm .... wouldn't all weapons be "assault weapons"? Ok, so a shotgun is a defensive weapon but it can be used to "assault" someone or something .... yes?

That didn't take long. I guess I'll have to move sooner than I wanted.

Yet another weapons ban that will do nothing but disarm the good guys and do nothing to the bad guys.

I know this is a stupid question but is there any chance of this being defeated? Any chance of a veto?

Screw Maryland. The Washington Post is all giddy now that it is an one-party state once again. (Soon to be totalitarian)

O'Malley's in charge now. There's no chance of a veto, period.

Born and raised in MD, lived there for 40 years, escaped in 2003 to MT, despite having all my family there, I'll only go back for short visits. This is a horrible defeat for the good 2nd Amendment folk of MD.

This is vile. Maryland is a beautiful state, with a lot of really nice people living in it. Unfortunately, it is ruled by the thugs of the Baltimore/PG County Axis of Evil.

I guess we should all just move to Idaho and wait until they come for us there...

I've spent more than half of my life in the peoples republic of maryland and I don't want to spend the rest of it here. I was thinking of somewhere closer like Va. Although Idaho would be nice if I could afford it.

Interesting notes from the MD state constitution:

Art. 1. That all government of right originates from the people, is founded in compact only, and instituted solely for the good of the whole; and they have, at all times, the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their Form of Government in such manner as they may deem expedient.

...........
Art. 6. That all persons vested with the Legislative or Executive powers of Government are the Trustees of the Public, and, as such, accountable for their conduct: Wherefore, whenever the ends of Government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the People may, and of right ought, to reform the old, or establish a new Government; the doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power and oppression is absurd, slavish and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.

.................
Art. 28. That a well regulated militia is the proper and natural defence of a free Government.

..........

Art. 44. That the provisions of the Constitution of the United States, and of this State, apply, as well in time of war, as in time of peace; and any departure therefrom, or violation there of, under the plea of necessity, or any other plea, is subversive of good Government, and tends to anarchy and despotism.

Art.45. This enumeration of Rights shall not be construed to impair or deny others retained by the People.
