Will America's "Star Wars" missile defense program need satellites for it to work?
Call me cynical but I believe the Chinese knew exactly what they were doing and have just sent a message to the U.S.
Especially since Russia released a statement early this morning stating this was a hoax.
EVERYTHING we use depends on satellites... all our new GPS-guided munitions, some of the Star Wars stuff, most of our current navigational and communications equipment... everything.
The Chinese don't give a damn what a bunch of hand-wringing politicians have to say, and they don't care wheteher they sent us a message or not. What they care about is developing weapons systems that work when they need something destroyed... rather than sending a message of compassion and dialogue.
I was waiting for someone to take this seriously on this thread.
If China can take out our satelites they can distroy our GPS sytems, our air defense and our cell phone capability.
This, IMO, is a big thing.
Does our Star wars system intercept the missles before they reach where our satellites are orbiting? If so, then our system is ok. If the system only hits missles upon re-entry, then we are in trouble. Also, will our system be able to hit cruise missles that can alter course and hug the terrain?
Just as they previously sent us a message when their undetected submarine surfaced 5 miles from our fleet during exercises. They're testing our political waters, too, checking to see if anyone takes real action.
