Before the internet, that might've mattered. But more people are interested in the playoffs this weekend than'll give a flying fig about Hilliary declaring. This is a boneheaded decision.
I'm not so sure that it wasn't timed this way precisely because of the lack of viewers. It's straight from the clinton war room playbook. For eight years of the clinton co-presidency, they put out on a weekend news they wanted to downplay. It's unlikely they'd now misunderstand and misapply the strategy they perfected.
IMHO, this is calculated to once again insulate her from the public eye--a necessary component if she has a prayer of winning. Every public outing must be carefully controlled. With minimal viewership of original coverage, the subsequent coverage can be manipulated to best advantage.
