LONDON, England (AP) -- Prince Charles has canceled a traditional skiing holiday in a bid to reduce his carbon footprint, his office said Saturday -- a day after campaigners and a government minister criticized his decision to fly to New York to collect an award for work on environmental issues.

Environment Secretary David Miliband expressed reservations Friday about the heir to the British throne traveling to the United States for the ceremony, while advocacy groups urged the prince to use a video link instead.

Prince Charles' Clarence House office said the prince had decided last year to cancel a regular skiing holiday to Switzerland as part of an effort to reduce the number of flights he takes.

Details of the prince's carbon footprint are scheduled to be published along with his annual office accounts later this year. The document will set out targets for the reduction of carbon emissions by his office and household.

Plane Stupid, a climate change group, and Britain's Green Party complained Friday that Prince Charles would be accompanied to the U.S. by an entourage of around 20 people, increasing the cost in carbon emission terms of the trip.

When everyone moves out of that castle and destroys all their cars and jets, then give me a call. I had to go back and check to see if this was from the onion. Really. It would have been a really funny Saturday Night Live skit.

I think the man has gone nuts. Seriously. Isn't there is a history of that with the royals?

I wonder if the Monty Python group was thinking of Charles when they made the "127th Annual Upper-Class Twit of the Year" skit?

Typical limousine liberal, jetting around the country with an entourage, burning jet and car fuel, all to tell us how "environmentally conscious" they are.

He's a looney and I'm not sure he hasn't always been one.

Genetic path -- who was that guy who gave up the throne for a woman, in the 30s? I think that did not speak well of him. Duke of Windsor .... This is 'weak-willed' at best and certainly a lot more.

It will be Britain's great blessing if this man NEVER takes the throne. What a joke. Kind of like having John Kerry or the Breck Guy as Prez. hoooeeeeyyy.

I USED to think he should succeed in becoming king in order to preserve succession. HOWEVER he has demonstrated himself to be an absolute lunatic.

His father is correct in being disappointed in him. If anything Prince Charles is the ultimate feminization of boyhood. Remember the father was reduced to nothing more than an (his words) ameoba.

Fatherhood was marginalized and you end up with a wussy son who in no way shape or form should be king.

Why doesn't he quit breathing? This would save even more carbon, and at least then we wouldn't have to worry about this nut ascending the throne. Then Diana's son could be the next King.

Since animal farts are also a source of greenhouse gases, I hope he gets rid of his polo ponies and perhaps the horsey wife...that will save the planet for sure.

He probably cancelled because there's NO SNOW in Switzerland. It was so warm in Zurich today that I saw kids riding bikes in SHORTS. When Bodi Miller won last week in Wengen, the course had to be artificially created or else he would have been skiiing on rocks and green grass.

the personal footprint BS is just a way to create a "breathing tax"

Next we reduce the human population to reduce the footprint. How about mandatory sterilization? How about licensing motherhood? fatherhood?

Charles is doing on his own what the french could never do, destroy the monarchy.

What an appropriately named group.

I wonder which is bigger, my carbon footprint or their carbon assprint?

I wonder what would happen if we merged the two?
