Russian General Calls Planned US Anti-Missile Radar a 'Threat' By VOA News 22 January 2007

A Russian general says placing elements of a U.S. anti-missile system in Poland and the Czech Republic would be a "clear threat" to Moscow.

Lieutenant General Vladimir Popovkin, the chief of Russia's Space Forces, disputed the U.S. contention that the system's sole aim was to defend Europe against intercontinental missiles fired by hostile states outside the region.

Poland and the Czech Republic have agreed to start detailed discussions with Washington on hosting anti-missile defenses.

Russian officials have repeatedly opposed the project, calling it a veiled attempt to change the strategic balance between Russia and the West.

Both Poland and the Czech Republic are former communist Warsaw Pact countries that are now NATO members.

I'm getting a really bad vibe from this guy.

I don't think he trusts the U.S.

Now how can an antimissile detection system's Radar be a threat to the Soviets.Oops I mean the Russians.

The Russians have antimissile/Anti-aircraft missiles all over their country and we don't consider them to be a threat. That is until we have a military reason to penetrate that airspace.

What would you be saying if Russia erected missile defenses in Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua?

If russkies fear and oppose this system, it must be good for Poland.

Selling nuclear technology to Iran is a clear threat to the rest of the world.

Sounds like the old Soviets from the 60s. Radar is a threat, but the missiles that the radar is looking out for are NOT?

The Ruskies can go to hell.

Sure its all fine for them to 'alter the balance of power' by taking over national media outlets by the gov't...

Doubling gas prices of its gov't owned oil companies to nations that don't submit to their political/trade/economic demands...

Building Iran's nuclear reactors, stiff-arming sanctions, and even selling anti-aircraft missiles just weeks after pussy sanctions are passed...

Sending hit squads around the world to poison people who are challenging the new oligarchy...

Yet suddenly the US talking to Poland (who was REALLY occupied for a long time by the commies) about putting up some missile defense is some big dangerous incitement.

I know its crude, but to convey my intended bluntness: Blow me Ruskies, what are you going to do about it?

I'd tell them to go for what you know.

The U.S. will spend them into bankruptcy again if that's what it takes and all the little commies in Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua don't have the capital to help.

How many times does socialism have to fail before the lefties finally decide they just can't compete with free men pursing their own personal fortunes.

I don't think he trusts the U.S.

The entire Russian military doesn't trust the US. And the fecklessness of US policy in the 1990s--and the possibility of a repeat in 2007 et seq--probably scares the crap out of them more than Reagan's policies ever did.

Simple- To build more missiles which can surcumvent ABM. To build some "country buster" for Poland&Chechia.

Sure its all fine for them to 'alter the balance of power' by taking over national media outlets by the gov't... ==

What media outlet was took by goverment?

Sending hit squads around the world to poison people who are challenging the new oligarchy... ==

If you mean Litvinenko that he served to that new oligarkh Berezovskii. And who poisoned him still we do not know.
