Why is Sadr still alive?

Has anyone seen him lately? ChickenShiite is probably in Iran.

45 days? Wasn't the decision to pursue Sadr pretty recent?

Apparently not so recent as we have been led to believe.

I disagree.

Killing terrorists saves lives.

Letting Sadr and thousands of his soldiers walk around free does not, IMHO.

The politicians should stay the hell out of battle planning, and let the soldiers do their jobs.

"Why is Sadr still alive?"

It's one 'strategery' I can't explain. His head should have been on a stick in front of his recently flattened mosque.

Of course killing terrorists saves lives. I never said that it didn't. Don't even imply that I did.

But it is up to the military and not you to determine what is the most efficient time and way to do that.

The military determined when to attack Fallujah. I suspect it is the same for the Mahdi army.

It is you who is telling the military what to do from thousands of miles away without knowing what is going on on the ground.

I repeat: It appears to me that it has been al-Qaeda and Sunni based insurgents who have been IED'ing our troops.Up until recently, the Shiite militias have been targeting Iraqi civilians. I suspect, our delay in dealing with the Shiite militias is because we want the Iraqi security forces to remove the Shiite militias instead of our precious soldiers putting their lives on the line going door-to-door doing the dirty work. That scenario probably saves American lives and I'll add...kills terrorists who terrorize innocent Iraqi civilians.

Two years to late. Nothing like fighting a PC war, afraid to make people that hate you and want you dead mad.

"Sectarian violence" my a$$. Actually it's Iranian and al-Qaeda backed insurgents of both sects against the innocent of Iraqi (both sects). The Sunni insurgents and the Shia militias don't seem to be attacking each other. They both instead seem to attack innocent woman and children at some market or students at some University.

Exactly ---

No, it's been both, with the help of Iran.

Oh, if that were the case. Unfortunately, the military is being forced to walk a politically correct political policy.

About 600 fighters and 16 leaders of the radical Shia militia, the Mehdi Army, have been captured by security forces in Iraq, the US military says.

It is about time

That's today.

But will they be back on the street tomorrow?

that's the real question.

Bush's compassionate counter-insurgency appears seven less effective than this 'compassionate conservatism' up to this point. He still needs to demonstrate that he's going to do what needs to be done to close the deal. I'm anxious for him to prove my pessimism wrong.

I hope the Kurds have them.

That would be nice. The Kurds won’t let them go the next day.

You'll get no flames from me.

It's long past the time when this pig should have had a close encounter with a .50 cal HE "message" from a U.S. Barrett sniper rifle -- preferably when he was right in the middle of a mob of his sycophants.

I think Mookie has been played, was used as a magnet, he has the largest following of all the self appointed "Leaders", it is easier to round up the bad guys this way.

I believe it has been the Sunni half of the Iranian/al Qaeda alliance that has been IED'ing our troops. So you fight the Sunni/al-Qaeda half while we train the Iraqi Security forces to help us take our the Shiite malitias. IF you have other information, you should document it.

But it is up to the military and not you to determine what is the most efficient time and way to do that.

Oh, if that were the case. Unfortunately, the military is being forced to walk a politically correct political policy.

How do you even know that is the case. It was the military who decided the timing of the Fallujah invasion. Shall I document for you the quotes from Gen. Franks?

I suspect it is the same with Sadr City.

The military objective to remove the Shiite militias is now being accomplished and it is being accomplished by both our troops and Iraqi Security forces who are now over 300,000 strong. We didn't have that kind of support back in 2004.

Here's a military general explaining why he thinks it's important to have the Iraqi security forces doing their own work to combat the Shiite militias.

Sounds to me like the General is saying it's important military strategy to have a unified Iraqi military army (and police force) so that they can clean up their own fat-boy and Mahdi Army mess.

But maybe you know more than the General, right?

Maybe after we do pull back, the Iraqi government will simply kill more of these terrorists. That may be all they can understand.
