We used to give them a whack on the way INTO the restaurant/church/airplane just as a reminder of what was to be expected in the event of a whine attack. Consequently I had 4 kids I could take anywhere.

When we were kids we knew exactly what was acceptable and what was not acceptab;e and what the consequences were. And if by chance one of us was stupid enough to push my mother's buttons we got it right there in the store. I remember when I was in the 1st grade getting wacked by my dad for begging for a toy that I'd already been told I couldn;t have...right infront of two little girls from my class. Talk about being embarrassed. Never happened again.

I was the same way with ours. You want to scream and cry? Good, let me give you something to cry about! And then whack them good...this kind of behavior stops real quick. We never had our son throw a temper tantrum in public.
