Here are a few reasons:
The US Chamber of Commerce and big/small businesses want the free flow of cheap, available labor. Business contributes heavily to the politicians.
Labor unions see "undocumented workers" as the savior of their flagging infuence and a source of new members. The unions contribute heavily to the politicians.
Dems see "undocumented workers" as future [and probably current] voters who are largely Hispanic and members of the fastest and largest minority in America. It will cement their hold on power for generations. Many influential groups like La Raza contribute heavily to the politicians.
When you get a perfect storm of such disparate interest groups, is it any wonder that the politicians are willing to thumb their nose at public opinion? We are going to get "comprehensive immigration reform" whether we like it or not.
We are going to get immigrants whether we want them or not. Reform is another subject.
You're absolutely right...it is just like a perfect storm..exactly as the OBL agenda has dictated. Had Bush and the Republican party united AGAINST CIR and Amnesty, such a perfect storm would never exist and Republicans would still be in the majority, CIR would be dead, our borders would be effectively secured, no path to citizenship (amnesty) would be granted and as a nation of laws, they would be enforced. But that was never the plan.....
"Our biggest challenge will be to separate my uncle from the rest of the Republican Party."
This is a President who represents the diversity of our society, who WE can count on TO CHANGE the Republican Party to represent OUR views."
He told the rally his mother had instilled him the values of Cesar Chavez, the Chicano activist who fought for the rights of migrant farmworkers in the United States. She told me WE have to fight for OUR RACE, we have to find the LEADERS WHO REPRESENT US, he said in fluent Spanish.
