I must admit, I think Sam would be a formidable candidate if not for his stand on amnesty for illegals. That's the poison pill for him.

Yeah, Hunter,Brownback even Newt over mitmcguili.

I don't think he gives Hunter any competition at all.

Sam's candidacy, while (I think) doomed by his stance on illegal immigration, will squander much-needed funds and support from pro-lifers. This is why we really need to unite behind one guy early....

Sounds like he is the man to get behind.

I could support him but I will not support Rudy, Romney or McCain because most democrats can run to the right of these three and sound bite people will vote for who seems more conservative.

I like what I've read about DH, but I want to see and hear him myself before deciding to back him.

Duncan Hunter is the best conservative candidate out there. He just lacks national name recognition.

Unfortunately, he's sucking some of the conservative support of people who don't know this.

Exactly. While I like Sam a lot, and think his heart is in the right place, I hope his candidacy is a short one...

From that Brownback article that got pulled [Google is amazing at archiving modern life]:

Sen. Brownback has a horrendous record on immigration. He is about two miles to the Left of most Democrats on this issue. Americans for Better Immigration gives him a overall grade of D. On reducing chain migration, he receives an F-; on reducing visa lotteries, F-; on reducing unnecessary visas, F-; and on reducing amnesties, F.

Politicians discuss fate of Guantanamo on morning talk shows

WASHINGTON California Congressman Duncan Hunter scoffs at the notion detainees at the U-S prison in Guantanamo Bay are being abused.
On "Fox News Sunday," he read from the detainees' food menu, which included orange glazed chicken, fresh fruit and rice pilaf. He adds sarcastically that he sent for the menu "so that average Americans could understand how we're brutalizing people in Guantanamo."

Friday, Republican Senator Mel Martinez of Florida became the latest lawmaker to suggest that the Bush administration should consider closing the prison, saying "It's become an icon for bad stories."

He's photogenic, which helps, although one might never know it from some of the photos that are used in news articles:

"This guy needs to get net savvy fast."

Thank you. He might be good for something, but having a website that says "under construction / click here to contribute" does not send the right message.

Hope he hires some "net-savvy" help and gets it fixed.

An excellent place for his webmeister to start putting some links in place from his website, which as of right now has no content except "contribute here".

Exactly. Or worse, a 3rd Party candidate could emerge and run to the right of both, allowing a Democrat to win with 40% of the vote. That's what happens when the GOP nominee is perceived as being "not conservative."

He just lacks national name recognition.

We all can help with that. Start spreading the word about Hunter to your email lists. I've already done one round. Will do another after he announces.
