Lawmaker Wants Pup-Friendly Pubs

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A Washington state lawmaker thinks you should be able to have a drink with your best friend.

State Sen. Ken Jacobsen is introducing a bill that would allow Fido into pubs.

The brew pups would have to be leashed and well behaved.

The Seattle Democrat said he got the idea after sitting in a popular bar and seeing cold, shivering dogs forced to wait outside for their owners.

A public hearing on the dog-friendly bar bill is slated for later this month.

Better he sit there than in the Capitol. Give this man a raise.

There's actually a few bars in Baltimore that allow dogs, some of which openly cater to dog owners. I thought it was a little odd at first, but they're actually pretty good places to hang out. Dog owners, especially the kind that are inclined to stop off on their daily walk for a beer, are pretty nice people.

I don't know that this would work everywhere, but it's not as bad an idea as it sounds.

Is it to "allow" the owners to allow dogs, or is it to "force" the owners to allow dogs?

My dog doesn't drink.

You'd figure that people would have the good sense to take their dogs back home before they started hitting the bars.

That's rich! (sarc) If pet owners really had compassion, they would take the pooches home before boozing at a bar. Then the dogs wouldn't get cold. Anyway, what does this numbnuts legislator think dog's fur is suppose to be doing?

Sounds like a good idea to me. The dogs will probably behave better than some of the two-legged clientele.

It's ironic that we've come to the point where everything is so regulated that we need new laws to give back some freedoms.

I had a cat that used to hang out at the bar and not a single lawmaker was involved.

I was mildly surprised to find that dogs were often welcome in English pubs. More so in the tiny villages and crossroads than in town, though.

Stupid bastards like that shouldn't be allowed to own dogs.

If I'd seen such a sight, I'd be several dogs richer, the dogs themselves would be warm and cozy, and the erstwhile "owners" would be invited to try their damnedest to kiss my ass.

Great idea. Now if they would just recind the "Take your child to work day" and turn it into "Take your dog to work day."

Hell, maybe I can by a seat on AirTran. My dog is better behaved than that b*stard kid who got thrown off.

Damn you! "Taking the dog for a walk", is my best excuse for getting out of the house and sneaking to the bar. LOL

I think it's wonderful to allow bar owners to actually RUN their own businesses as they see fit.

In Germany, when I went this summer, dogs are everywhere. they are well-trained and behaved, and I saw nary a turd or puddle. Something tells me that Americans won't be as reasonable about it, but that needs to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
