Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding President George W. Bushs State of the Union Address:
It is encouraging that tonights State of the Union speech addresses some of the issues that the people of California are very concerned about. Our state is leading the fight against global warming, dissatisfied with our broken health care system and demanding comprehensive immigration reform.
No state feels the financial burden of the uninsured more than California. Businesses and consumers pay a hidden tax to cover the cost of treating people without insurance, and we must eliminate that tax. My administration is reviewing the full impact of the Presidents health proposal, and I am hopeful this is the start of a serious debate in Congress about bringing down the cost of health care. A goal I share with President Bush is creating a net tax reduction on businesses and individuals as a way to reform health care. I also support efforts that will increase individual responsibility.
I applaud the President for continuing his efforts to achieve comprehensive immigration reform. I wholeheartedly support the Presidents call for legislation that secures the border and creates a temporary worker program. I also commend the President on his request for resolution on how we manage immigrants currently in the United States in an environment free of animosity. It is my hope that members of Congress and the President work together cooperatively and take action on this issue that so deeply affects the people of California.
When it comes to energy and alternative fuels, California is setting the standard for reducing our dependence on fossil fuel by establishing the first Low-Carbon Fuel Standard. Like my order on alternative fuel, I believe it is critical that any policy from the President or Congress has teeth and is not just a noble concept. My energy and environmental advisors are assessing the full impact of the Presidents proposal, but I am encouraged to hear him talk about alternative fuels and appreciate his recognition of climate change. However, we must be sure that any alternative fuel proposal does not favor one technology over another. We prefer that consumers and markets not governments determine those outcomes. In addition to energy security, any proposal encouraging alternative fuel must address global warming and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Acknowledging climate change is not enough. We must take steps to tackle it.
Sounds like a campaign speech for the Guv!
Right Girly Man...Free Health for all. You been sleeping with that Kennedy lady for too long...your mind has gone soft.

He wants to get rid of the hidden tax but charge a 'fee'. lol What's the diff Gov?
That was a very concise, tightly worded, and good, proclamation by the Governor. :)
If people here would be as dedicated to defeating the Democrats as they are to bashing Republicans, we would NOT have a Democrat controlled Congress.
Correct, FairOpinion.
I can see why the divorced rate in this country is so high. Piss me off and I'm out of here seems to be the attitude around here.
It's all or nothing with some people, ignoring the fact that they'll be hard pressed to get anything they want from the other guys, whereas with republicans in congress at least they'd get some of what they want.
"they'll be hard pressed to get anything they want from the other guys, whereas with republicans in congress at least they'd get some of what they want."
Exactly. But they are much happier with a noseless face.
Problem is that they are doing it to the rest of us too.
Wrong forum FO.
This is FR. We are equal opportunity bashers when it comes to liberals.
Try FreeRepublican.com. They may give a damn about our liberal governor.
You still don't get it...
Give me a ratio of your posts bashing Republicans vs. those bashing Democrats.
I think it's something like 100,000 to ZERO or at best 100,000 to 1.
You never criticize the CA Dem Legislature passing the most outrageous socialist bills, but you criticise Arnold who is the only one standing between us and full socialism in CA, constantly passed by said Dem Legislature.
If people here would be as dedicated to defeating the Democrats as they are to bashing Republicans, we would NOT have a Democrat controlled Congress.

You have heard of Cause and Effect?
If Republicans would quit wrapping their arms around democRats and embracing the dark side here, you might not see so many bashed, ever think of that?
(Why am I posting to a TWirP?)
Heman is doing EXACTLY as I had anticipated!
Most people with any common sense consider people who exhibit such sucky behavior as both politically and gender confused!!! (ie... a girlyman!!!)
But when some idiot calling himself a "Republican" Governor of the nation's most populuous state out Gray Davises Gray Davis...The ultimate Democrat... Then that's remarkable on a conservative web-site like FR!!!
But you'll never quit your sickophantic posting of puff pieces worshiping Schwartzeneggerism, will you? Heck no! Never!!! Maria! Is that you???
Translation: "Everybody who works hard for a living must have the responsibility to grab their ankles as big government takes their money and buys health-care insurance for every bum and illegal under the sun."
Everyone here also knows that the choice was between Arnold and Angelides.
Everyone here also knows that Arnold was not elected emperor or dictator, and the CA Dem controlled Legislature passes the laws and the best Arnold can do is veto some of the worst ones.
P.S. Quit trying so desperately to speak for "everyone here!" You and your dissonant band are extremely in the minority "here!" Git over it!!!
