Well, that was slightly before my time.
If they hadn't, I thank you for helping blaze the trail. ;-P
I hope Ohio is watching this, but somehow, I would guess that they are not. If they couldn't do it under Taft, I doubt that Strickland will be pushing a tax cut.
Not exactly - you can deduct your state taxes from your federal taxable income and keep a portion (depending on your tax bracket, 10%, 15%, 28%, etc.) local. For a guy like me in the 25-28% bracket, I need to pay $1000 in local taxes to save $250-280 in federal taxes. That's not a good deal - I'd rather pay $0 in local taxes and not get the deduction - I'd be $720-750 ahead.
For years now CWU and NJEA vehicles have been common in the area, but no one in the media has been able to figure out exactly what they were taking. This recent event makes it clear that they were taking everything.
N. Carolian is debating a couple of "temporary" taxes that are due to expire this year but lo & behold, the politicians can't sem to make do without the money. Shocking!
That is better than paying $3000 in property tax and $7500 in state income taxes.
For states on Federal Life Support, like Alabama, etc., the rich states raising taxes means less money to them unless there's a Fed tax increase.
I forgot, Texas does not pay food tax. That could really add up.
I wonder if anyone has forwarded this article to Governor Lynch and the Commurat legislature up here in NH--they seem hell bent on passing a broad-based income tax, a sales tax, or both.
Live free or die, my butt.
And even tho I pay 4500 a year in property taxes in NH, it's still a heck of a lot better than the 9.3% income tax, 8% sales tax, and 7K property tax I was getting nailed with in the DPRK (Demokratik People's Republik of Kaliforniastan) before I escaped.
Things cost what they cost. The country is dividing up pretty quickly into "low public service" and "high public service" states. The end results -- how this impacts population growth, business, etc. is anyone's guess.
I'd say public services work pretty well around here. Schools still teach kids, roads are kept up, police and fire departments are working just fine.
We're just not into supporting the welfare folks up here.
I can give you one example - Michigan.
Our economy is the worst in the nation, yet what does our Canadian Trash governor Granholm do? Assembles a "panel" to look at the problem that includes the LAST democrat disaster, Jim "will the last person in Michigan turn out the lights" Blanchard! More democrat solutions include a state sales tax on services (INCLUDING health care), higher fees for licenses, and a stubborn refusal to even look at consolidating teacher health care benefits, which could save taxpayers millions.
We're losing over 2100 jobs because Phizer is pulling out. I wonder who is next?
A panel of self-professed experts wants to see 63 changes in the Michigan state constitution.
These changes would significantly raise taxes, strip citizens of their constitutional rights and give unprecedented power to Lansing politicians.
Citizens for Michigan, a clique of elitists and socialist engineers, also called for forbidding the right of citizens to change the constitution through the ballot box, raising taxes for schools, abolishing the right of citizen to recall politicians, raising pay automatically for legislators and, of course, making it easier to jack up property taxes.
The group also recommends that the state's 6% sales tax be raised.
Now, if you move to a 'no state income tax' state--not only do you NOT pay state income taxes, you ALSO get to take a deduction on your Federal taxes for sales taxes (which people in states like Michigan) in most cases can NOT do because their state income taxes are higher than their sales tax in almost all cases.
Great. Just what people in 'income tax' states like Michigan need--another incentive to leave--subsidized by the Federal government. Amazing.
How in the heck did the congressmen in 'income tax' states agree to this one??
We're just not into supporting the welfare folks up here.
Then the welfare folks will most likely move to another state. Welfare is pretty much on its last legs anyway. Workfare is the way to go.
Pfizer is pulling out of NYC as well -- at least the manufacturing plant, not corporate headquarters. They just announced they're closing a plant in Brooklyn and laying off 600, which is a drop in the ocean.
The worse thing they could do is to put on a vaule added tax. A simple sales tax will fund any state that keeps it's spending realistic. A vaule added tax sucks.
Yep. You've got to pay them year after year after year. Can't fire the city for doing a bad job, but they give themselves a raise when they feel like it. The worst employee on the payroll.
I didn't even mention the other outrageous expenses of doing business in New Haven - the double water bill: You get to pay top rates for water, then have to pay it again to the "Regional Water Authority" for using the sewer system...
Even state legislators are finally getting it. An income tax is BAD. It punishes productivity and profit.
