I think this is just another of countless "we're getting TOUGH now" campaigns that they've been doing occasionally for many years. BS. A lot of noise over a handful of raids. Maybe I should go to work once a month, but just make lots of noise about my heroic efforts when I do.

I hope the statement about this culminating with Bush's speech is just Reuters spin, because that's ugly if true.

How about consistently enforcing legal residency verification on employers?

How about letting the border patrol use weapons however necessary to defend our border? How about standing up for those two agents who are now facing 10 and 12 years for not filing a report after they shot at a drug smuggler?

What ever happened to sending the National Guard down to help defend our border? Woohoo, now we're serious! Oh, yeah, they didn't get to use weapons either. I have to think that was just another show to try to diffuse the attention brought by the Minutemen.

We won't get any real border enforcement under Bush.

And as much as I would like to see the immigration laws enforced, there is something slimy and cruel about occasionally enforcing the law for show this way. It's like letting them sit in someone else's chair, and then kicking it out from under them.

What is so hard to understand about enforcing the laws we have, and doing it consistently? We don't even need new laws to solve this problem.

I agree.

I live in Los Angeles. I can tell you they should be doing these raids at this intensity every day. They would go on for years and only make a dent.

One day of raids is not gonna do it.
