WASHINGTON (AFP) - Iran is on the verge of launching a satellite into space that could herald a new dimension in Tehran's strategic capabilities, Aviation Week and Space Technology has said on its website.A recently assembled, 30-ton ballistic missile-turned space launcher could also be used for testing longer-range missile strike technologies, the magazine said it will report in its January 29 issue.
The Iranian space launcher "will liftoff soon" with an Iranian satellite, said Alaoddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, according to the weekly.

Damn Iranians been busy
Maybe. This could be BS PR, but it would be a huge development if true. If they can put a satellite in orbit, they have an ICBM.
Yeah, right.
Maybe China could shoot it down.
As long as Clinton or China did not give them our guidance technology, we're OK.
Optimally, the missile will suddenly veer off course after launch, to crash into an Iranian city, resulting in a surprising amount of destruction and loss of life.
As long as Clinton or China did not give them our guidance technology, we're OK.

You can bet they bought either the technology or the hardware to do it from either China, Russia, or NK. All three, our friends....(/sarc)
Unlike the nuke development, the manufacture and support of rockets such as this require impossible to hide factories and fuel plants....thus making it possible to set the whole problem back a decade with a few well aimed cruise missiles.
As soon as our National Defense systems detect a 'missile' launch from Iranian coordinates, we should blow it out of the sky claiming that they launched an attack on us and Israel.
Propaganda. Two can play that game.
Unless I'm mistaken, Google Earth shows one of their acquisitions from Russia on the NW corner of the airfield at Shiraz, Iran. I'm guessing it's a Russian copy of an AWACS.
25,000 Peugeot 405 Unchecked After Fire Incidents
TEHRAN, Oct. 30, 2006--Some 25,000 Peugeot 405 cars have failed to undergo safety checks by Iran Khodro after the Middle Easts largest carmaker recalled thousands of the originally-French cars for urgent checks. Manouchehr Manteqi, the companys managing director, said some 109,000 Peugeot 405 sedans had been recalled earlier after several cars caught fire in the past months due to defective fuel systems. He said many world-famous brands such as Audi and Ford have experienced the same problems, stressing that the company is investigating 124 factors that could have led to the devastating incidents.
The official blamed serious flaws for car fire incidents, adding that cars manufactured at Iran Khodro conform to all relevant international standards.
