Well, there's so much money to be made in drug smuggling, that they'd better keep the gallows oiled and in good working condition.

I'll wager that Singapore doesn't have much of a problem with drugs being imported into,or transferred through, their country.

No kidding. Every time I've flow into Singapore I've been confronted with large signs featuring skulls and crossbones saying "Death for narcotics smugglers in Singapore". It's not like they don't warn everyone.

I'm a huge fan of their use of the Rattan Cane, too.
Who was that American vandal that Clinton intervened for, 12 years back...?

I travel alot to Singapore on business, and have a chance to talk with the locals, which are of many stripes. This country could learn alot about justice and discipline and how effective enforcing your strict laws really is.
Sadly, the entire Washington government works hard to water down our laws, focuses on encouraging the breaking of many of our laws, and the enforcement is pathetic given our liberal judiciary. Singapore does it right -- we don't.

There are reasons Singapore is a clean, prosperous, low-crime country, and executions like this are among them.

"Singapore has hanged two convicted African drug traffickers after their appeals for clemency were turned down and despite protests from rights activists. Iwuchukwu Amara Tochi, 21, of Nigeria, and 35-year-old Okeke Nelson Malachy, who officials said was stateless, were hanged at Changi prison in the early morning as anti-death penalty campaigners held vigil outside. No "justice delayed is justice denied" in Singapore!
Good for them!

This would not happen in the USA while the official stance is to bomb Christians for Al-Qaeda backed KLA drug runners and jail border agents for shooting a drug smuggler in the butt.

Singapore is centered on Confucian values that emphasize harmony and one's obligations to society and the family above freedom and being able to do whatever you want without regard for others. Its a clean, well-run and very law and order country. As an American, I wouldn't like to live there since the values are so different. They show no leniency towards criminals so if you're tempted to go there thinking you can get away with breaking the law - don't do it. If you value your own life.

I've enjoyed visiting Singapore but always found it a bit sterile. OTOH, stories like this make me really appreciate the place. However, the country is responsible for that crap called Tiger beer.
