Radical cleric calls for Islamic utopia

A radical Muslim cleric has urged hundreds of supporters meeting in Sydney's south-west to join a global push to create an Islamic utopia.

Indonesian firebrand cleric Ismail Yusanto outlined his plan for instituting Sharia law, the absolute form of Islam, to a crowd of about 500 people gathered at the Khilafah Conference in Lakemba.

The meeting was organised by the Australian arm of the extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir, a group widely known for its anti-democratic, anti-Semitic views.

The group believes that it can reduce suffering around the globe by introducing Sharia law and creating an Islamic utopia.

The NSW government has called on the Commonwealth to follow several European and Middle Eastern countries and ban the group.

Dr Yusanto called on followers to denounce capitalism, warning that if Islam was not followed in his Islamic super-state, jihad would follow.

From the nationalisation of utilities for the on-going funding of a jihadist army to fighting off an ensuing American-led invasion, he told the audience never to let pessimism enter their minds when seeking a utopian state of Islam not seen since 1924.

"Once the program is ready it must be implemented as soon as possible," Dr Yusanto said.

"Once successful, the new order would be just the beginning of the new era in the application of Islamic ideology.

The cleric went on to remind his listeners of the ultimate sacrifice in achieving a utopian Islamic state.

"There is no victory and glory without sacrifice and hard work," he said.

"No pain no gain."

Hizb ut-Tahrir is already banned in several European and Middle Eastern countries.

It has also been linked to the 2005 London bombings.

NSW Premier Morris Iemma called on federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock to join countries including Britain and Germany and ban the group.

"This is not a case of someone being different, someone advocating a different point of view," he told Sky News.

"This is an organisation that is basically saying that it wants to declare war on Australia, our values and our people. That's the big difference.

"And that's why I believe that they are just beyond the pale, enough is enough and it's time for the Commonwealth to review this organisation's status and take the lead from other countries and ban them."

But federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said government agencies were monitoring Hizb ut-Tahrir, although its activities in Australia did not warrant it being banned.

"Proscription of terrorist organisations is an issue that is dealt with by the Commonwealth after a referral of powers from the states," Mr Ruddock said.

Opposition immigration spokesman Tony Burke called on newly appointed Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews to consider cancelling Dr Yusanto's visa.

"There are clear character provisions in the immigration act that mean that if the government didn't want Ismail Yusanto here it could have stopped him from coming," he told reporters.

"The only reason we have someone in western Sydney right now preaching Sharia law is because the federal government chose to allow him to be here.

"My question and my comment to anyone from around the world who hates Australia is simple - if you hate the place, don't come here."

An Islamic utopia would be a world without Islam.

They are ant-capitalist, they hate Western "imperialism" and they want to nationalize things and create a utopia. They sound like good little socialists. Oh, goody, they are "religious" too! I bet they would be welcomed at any "peace" march.

Mr Iemma said he was looking forward to going head to head with Sheik Hilaly. "I'm confident the majority of my electorate, including the majority of Muslim constituents, would back my views every day," he said.

In Lakemba, the Muslim community makes up nearly 13 per cent (8264) of the electorate. Mr Iemma won 64.21 per cent (24,060) of the 39,093 votes cast in the 2003 election.

An Islamic utopia. Baloney. It's about jealousy and the desire for power. They are insanely jealous of the West. They've had so many generations to create something for themselves and are incapable of it, so all they can do is focus on destroy those who can accomplish something for themselves in this world. Send them and their families back where they came from. Since they can do is kill, let them kill each other.

Shock showdown ... Sheik Taj el-Din al-Hilaly is planning a challenge on three Labor seats, including that held by Premier Morris Iemma.

The second was Auburn I think...do you know the name of the other seat?

Here we go...Lakemba, Auburn, Bankstown:

Muslim leader attacks Hilali's state poll plan
David King and Imre Salusinszky
January 22, 2007

A PROMINENT Islamic leader has described Australian Mufti Taj Din al-Hilali's plans to field Muslim candidates at the NSW election as "about as helpful as Pauline Hanson getting back into politics".
Australian Federation of Islamic Councils legal adviser Haset Sali made the comment yesterday after Sheik Hilali called for a "shake-up" of Australian politics and revealed plans to recruit and endorse Muslim candidates in at least three western Sydney seats.
Sheik Hilali backed away from plans to personally contest the Sydney seat of Lakemba, held by NSW Premier Morris Iemma, but plans to enlist candidates to run as independents in three Labor-held seats.

Mr Iemma called on Sheik Hilali to bring it on, so that Muslim voters had the opportunity to "reject his lunacy".

"Don't hide behind another candidate. If you want to challenge, challenge yourself," he said. "It will be an opportunity for decent, right-thinking people of that community to reject the lunacy that he's put up."

Sheik Hilali's spokesman, Keysar Trad, said the plan was to field candidates in the seats of Bankstown, Auburn and Lakemba and use their preferences to "get politicians to lift their game".

Lebanese Muslim Association president Tom Zreika, who has close ties to the Liberal Party, said the sheik had a big support base. "He'll have a lot of support in the community. As to whether he's going to win, that's another question," he told Network Ten.

State Labor secretary Mark Arbib challenged the Coalition and the Greens to declare if they would direct preferences toward Sheik Hilali's candidates.

"Peter Debnam and the Liberals must come clean on their plan to run a candidate linked with the mufti against Premier Iemma," he said. "The sheik's main supporter, Tom Zreika, is a senior Liberal Party member and a Liberal councillor on Auburn city council; it begs the question, what role is Peter Debnam and the Liberal Party playing?"

NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam said Sheik Hilali should "stay out of politics and stay overseas".

"He's got no positive contribution to make. His divisive and offensive attitudes are not welcome," he said.

The sheik is expected to return to Sydney this week from Egypt to meet with Muslim community leaders and select candidates.

Mr Zreika said he thought a mufti-backed candidate would win community support. "The Muslims vote as a block, there are votes there for him," he said.

Sheik Hilali is considered the most senior Islamic figure in Australia.

Mr Trad ruled himself out of contention as a candidate.

Guns are banned in Australia, remember their national "buy back" scheme of a few years ago?

Makes them an easier target for the muzzie slime.

Similar to what the Pelosi/Schumer/Fienstein cabal have in mind for the U.S.
