ABC Asks Tornado-Struck Pastor: 'How Do You Reconcile Your Faith With This Tragedy?'

For the MSM, there's nothing like the occasion of a natural disaster to challenge the faith of religious believers.

On today's Good Morning America, Kate Snow interviewed the Rev. Larry Lynn, Pastor of the Lady Lake Church of God, whose buildings were totally levelled by the tornadoes that recently struck central Florida.

A minute or so into the interview, Snow asked a question that challenged the core of the pastor's religious belief: "How do you reconcile your faith with the enormity of this tragedy?"

Pastor Lynn answered in a manner consistent with the most basic Christian principles: "This is just a temporal thing. We deal in the eternal. Temporal things change on a daily basis. I don't know what today might bring, but I'm prepared for it. I don't know what tomorrow might bring, but I'm prepared for it, because I know who holds tomorrow. My confidence is not in the things of this world, but in He who sits on the throne and in his son, Jesus Christ."

I would ask the chick how she reconciles her communism with such high priced clothing.

"How do you reconcile your faith with the enormity of this tragedy?"

And the Pastor sez, "Well Sweetie Cups, when I hear reporters like you, I realize there IS a devil. And if there is a devil, there must be a God. It's that simple..."

I suspect the interviewer had no clue what he was talking about.

I don't get this bigoted line of questioning. It is like asking a wealthy person why he was mugged.

Obviously, such questions come from a complete lack of understanding of faith. Who ever said that 'become a Christian, nothing bad will ever happen to you?'

I know not why God’s wondrous grace
To me He hath made known,
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love
Redeemed me for His own.

Refrain

But I know Whom I have believèd,
And am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed
Unto Him against that day.

I know not how this saving faith
To me He did impart,
Nor how believing in His Word
Wrought peace within my heart.

Refrain

I know not how the Spirit moves,
Convincing us of sin,
Revealing Jesus through the Word,
Creating faith in Him.

Refrain

I know not what of good or ill
May be reserved for me,
Of weary ways or golden days,
Before His face I see.

Refrain

I know not when my Lord may come,
At night or noonday fair,
Nor if I walk the vale with Him,
Or meet Him in the air.

Refrain

This question shows a total lack of understanding about what the promise of Faith is about. I could go on to beat-up on the drive by media, but I wonder how many Christian asked the same question?

The middle part of the pastor's answer, imo, should have been the first and repeated part. That is that his beliefs made him well-prepared to deal with what happens, no matter what it is.

Instead the first idea he mentions was the weakest, a sop to victimhood, "This is just temporary."

Challenges in life are the constant blessings of the moral, and those closest to G-d. They are not "temporary".

He did not say "temporary," he said "temporal", meaning of this world, not of the eternal.

Actually, I have no problem with the question. It gave the pastor a perfect opening.

I see your point, but why was the question remotely necessary in the first place. As another poster suggested, who claims that bad things can't happen to believing people?
