What if this woman had a condition that needed immediate attention? She might have died and it would be some hand wringing liberal librarian's fault.

I am a librarian.
I have an IQ over 150. I am not "dumb".
I am not a loony lefty.
There is no way I would take a phone call from an unidentified "Officer Jones" or "Officer Smith" and release a patron's personal information over the phone without first verifying the legitimacy of the request.
The actions of the library in this story seem to me to be entirely appropriate and reasonable.

That is not true. Actaully, these librarians were smart enough to do exactly as the policy directed them. I'm not sure I could think on my feet so fast as they did. Further, I'll venture a guess to say they were also smart enough to know they should have been helping the police. But I'll bet dollars to doughnuts they were afraid for their jobs if they did not follow this policy that gets drilled into their heads by the ALA. Sometimes the victims here are the librarians themselves, the ones afraid for their careers under the watchful eye of Big Brother.

How would the library know that?! I don't remember the library asking me if I have asthma or diabetes or if I was hard of hearing?! She should have been wearing a medic alert bracelet if she had some serious issue like that.
