House schedules Iraq vote for next week
The Hill ^ | 2/6/07 | Klaus Marre

The House will vote next week on a non-binding resolution rejecting President Bush's plan to add more troops to Iraq.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told reporters Tuesday that Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) and International Relations Committee Chairman Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) are working on crafting the language for the measure.
The decision to move forward in the House comes a day after Senate Democrats failed to move a bipartisan resolution to a vote.

The House, not bound by the same procedural constraints as the Senate, likely will have an easier time passing such non-binding language.

"The reason we are going ahead is not because we don't think the Senate will ever act, but we are not sure when the Senate is going to act," Hoyer said.

"We said for a long period of time we would follow the Senate, but we believe it is important for us to make our views known prior to leaving for the President's Day break."

When informed of the House Democrats' plan, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had no comment on how that would affect negotiations in the Senate.

Hoyer expected a three-day debate on the measure to begin Tuesday, and added he thinks Democrats in the House would allow Republicans to offer an alternative. However, he stressed that there would not be an open rule on the resolution.

The sticking point in the Senate is that Republicans want a vote on a resolution introduced by Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) but the parties have been unable to come to a compromise on how to make that happen.

Hoyer believes that the House resolution, just like the Democratic-backed language in the Senate, will be bipartisan.

All the more reason to work hard to see that their majority is for this term only.

"just like the Democratic-backed language in the Senate, will be bipartisan"

Again, "bipartisan" will include a handful of Rhino's to allow the Democrats to preface everything they say with "bipartisan", which is pur B.S., as NO real Republicans would vote against support of the troops and their mission in war time.

Maybe it's time for a House pledge, like the one set up to get the NSRC's attention: no support for any republican that votes for such a measure, nor for the House Republican Re-election Committee if they fund anyone that votes for such a measure.

I never used to be one that wanted straight party line following, but the situation has evolved into the Democrats voting as a block, with no one allowed to vote outside party-lines. So, you can't bring a knife to a gun-fight, and the Republicans must fight fire with fire.

I don't donate to those who aren't conservative, and/or do not support the traditional values in all their votes. Period.
