"...If the teacher were female, and the student were male, I imagine we'd see some rather disgusting comments on this thread from some of the 'men' on FR..."

Correct. Part of it springs from the incredulous feeling we get when an ostensibly hot female throws away her career and risks a prison sentence for having sex with a minor when there are thousands of male FReepers out there willing to assist her in keeping her career intact and her person out of prison. Really, we're just trying to be helpful.

If this individual had been a priest, instead of a dues-paying member of the NEA, would his actions have been described as "having sex," or would the media have used maybe "abuse," "molesting," "sexually assaulting," and so on?
And, how many more cases of child rape does the NEA have to produce before the media suggests that there may be a problem in the organization?

"Next page says that fishermen use big nets and sea turtles get caught in them and die...."

And was there also a story about little baby boys and little baby girls getting their arms and legs hacked off by an abortionist?

Too pretty for prison? No? Then off you go.
And next time, be better looking!

Of course not, that kind of story doesn't fit the agenda.

I don't see why reading about the danger sea turtles face from debris in the ocean is a bad thing for a child to know.
Its one thing if all the blame is put on the US or Bush but just the fact that stating that the oceans are becoming polluted is neither a liberal or conservative issue.
At least it SHOULDN'T be.

That's right - force and money would have be required.

16 is age of consent. If the man were the store manager of a grocery store and she was the clerk there would be no crime.

Our laws are messed up.

There are a lot of bad things. Of all the bad things a child should be aware of, sea turtles choking on plastic bags isn't exactly my top 10 important life dangers my children need to know.

"I don't see why reading about the danger sea turtles face..."

Correct, as long as they cover ALL of the unpleasant topics - if sea turtles are important, how much more important are little baby boys and little baby girls that are getting hacked to death by Lefty-loving abortionists.

Having my 6 year old boy have to read books with pictures of bloated dead sea turtles with the blame laid on people is not encouraging reading. He was heart broke after reading it and wanted an explanation. I had to tell him that it has always been hard for sea turtles, even before man was around to bother them. He asked about again tonight.

Oh,for sure.I agree completely and I challenge you to find a comment of mine where I was not 100% pro-life!
That being said,Its still a tragedy when a sea turtle is strangled by a plastic six pack container wrapper. No,its NOT the same as an aborted child but I don't have to consider it trivial either.

I think your son is a very healthy, intellectually curious young man and the whole sea turtle expose offers you an opportunity to help him understand that life can often be tragic and heartbreaking but still a gift from God.
The fact that your son holds life, even that of a humble sea turtle, precious bodes well for him later being a very pro-life kind of kid on the abortion issue.
At least that is how I made the first connection between the two.

On the environmental front, though - we are pretty-much the least polluting and most environmentally conscious of all of the industrialized nations - but America is always portrayed as the great satan of polluters and environmental rapist.
Just looking at our system of zoos alone - WE are the ones that every country turns to to keep the world's breeding stock sane, WE are the ones that pour $$$ into world wildlife preservation.
I'm as much of a Crunchy-Con as the next guy, but a little perspective, please.

And if you read my first post I SPECIFICALLY said the blame should NOT be leveled at the US or Bush like it was part of some eco-agenda.
From what I understand, its the Asain countiries that are the biggest polluters of the ocean and use horrid techniques like dynamiting reefs in their fishing undustry.
