Fadavi was also quoted by the state broadcaster's Web site as saying that the warhead of this missile had the capacity to sink "all kinds of big warships". At least that's what the Russian salesman told him!

Here's the problem with that logic.
You may be able to sink big warships with your Russian made missiles.
The big question is can you sink them all at once?
And please remember my good friend, lots of our big warships don't travel on the surface.

There are a couple of carrier groups in the Persian Gulf for them to practice on.
The US Navy has a lot of balls to be cruising around in that little pond begging Iran to take their best shots.

Whom do you think they're playing to? The LSM media?
The relatively tiny Stark did not sink when sucker punched by Iraq. I doubt they can land a lethal blow to a U.S. carrier. If they try real hard they may sink one or two smaller U.S. ships, but at enormous cost, in terms of reprisals.
One thing is certain, if they fire on a U.S. ship, their nuclear weapons program is soooo over.

They might be able to sink big ones, but they'll *not* likely sink ours. Our US Navy is more ready than in the past. It's good to see that they're so focused on what's in front of them, though. [s]
If Iran fires, her leaders' fantasies of power will evaporate overnight. The whole problem will be solved very quickly and with very few US and civilian casualties. We'll hear about it when it's virtually over.

Wouldn't denegrate their missiles. On a floating container packed with fuel and explosives, anything could be dangerous.
Lets just hope the Sov, er, Russians didn't sell 'em the Yahkont, or the Indians sell them the BrahMos. Both of 'em are fast (3000 kph) and long ranged (300 km) with sophisticated guidance systems.

For all their faults, the Iranians are not mentalists.
They WILL NOT conduct a first strike on a US ship,k let alone a carrier.
However, if they are attacked first, then they would - quite rightly IMO - retaliate.
The question is if Israel attacks ... and they retaliate by hitting US targets.
To: Flavius
I'm quite sure they can "hit" big warships with the following caveats:
1) not maneuvering/engines inoperative
2) radar inoperative
3) Seawhiz NMC
