Ramos was circulated back into the general prison population after being initially segregated

Which means he was put in solitary confinement.

So he's supposed to spend 10 years in solitary because the federal prison system can't figure out how to prevent him from being murdered by the real criminals around him?

After hearing Rush's show yesterday I'm more convinced than ever that this whole affair is a travesty and these men are being offered up as scapegoats to appease someone. I don't know who or why but there's got to be a very scary reason for the DHS to lie to Congress and for the fedweral gov't to conduct a kangaroo court and convict these men like they did. This stinks.

As if we needed any further proof how 'justice' in this country has gone away. Where is Bush while his Department of Homeland Security has blatantly lied about this case and while the safety of these men is in doubt?

They put him in a prison where he wouldn't be recognized or known, but then, as part of the attempt to actually MAKE the public outraged, his picture appeared on America's Most Wanted.

Unfortunately, it appears the prison population really likes to watch that show, maybe to see if their buddies got on TV. When they saw it, a few had a negative reaction to the portrayal of Ramos on the show, and beat him up a bit. The news report said minor cuts and bruises, the 3rd-hand account from his father-in-law said he was severely beaten.

The 3rd-hand account also said he hadn't seen a doctor, don't know if that was confirmed, but if true it would suggest that the "cuts and bruises" was more likely than the more inflamatory "beaten to within an inch of his life" that some have reported.

I don't know how you protect a police officer in a prison population if you make him a nationally recognized figure and label him a hero. The key to safety in prison is anonymity, or isolation.

Maybe the should set up a special prison for convicted police officers.
