Spies File A Dissent On Qaeda

  • Eli Lake, The New York Sun reported that in a division reminiscent of the intelligence debates before the Iraq war, America's war fighters and satellite imagery experts have issued a formal dissent on one of the National Intelligence Estimate's most important judgments.

 

Iran installs 328 nuclear centrifuges: diplomats

  • Reuters reported that Iran has installed two cascades of 164 centrifuges each in its underground Natanz nuclear plant, laying a basis for "industrial-scale" enrichment of uranium for atomic fuel.

 

Bush promised Lavrov not to launch war against Iran

  • Yerik.am reported that Sergey Lavrov discussing his meeting with President George Bush said “The Bush administration assured me that the U.S. is not planning a war against Iran.”

 

British Groups Say Not to Attack Iran

  • The Washington Post discussed the report from the UK of a coalition of think tanks, unions and aid groups which are calling to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis over Iran's nuclear program, arguing that military action could be highly dangerous and counterproductive.

 

Iran: No Bombs, No Appeasement

  • Amil Imani, The American Thinker argued that while Islamic Republic is a danger that cannot be ignored, neither should we ignore the fact that the regime is hated by its own people. He offers 20 things the West can implement to help bring down the regime.

  • Michael Barone, Real Clear Politics took exception with the New York Times condemned Bush for "bullying" Iran.
  • The Jerusalem Post reported that according to Iran's Farsi news agency, the Mossad could not have been behind the death of one of its nuclear scientists three weeks ago, because Israeli operatives cannot penetrate the Iranian security apparatus.
  • Chron.com reported that Iran watchers say the Islamic Republic's political influence in Lebanon is backed up by the biggest donation it has made to Hezbollah — an estimated $1.2 billion in 2006.

So "Al Qaeda plays only a small role in the overall Sunni insurgency." We should keep in mind that the statement doesn't say anything about the Shiite insurgency or the training of Al Qaeda guerrillas by Iranian agencies.
