Lawmaker's links to Iran probed

  • The Washington Times reported that U.S. officials are investigating reports that an Iraqi lawmaker took part in the 1983 bombing of the U.S. and French embassies in Kuwait and is a conduit for Iranian weapons and supplies smuggled to Shi'ite militias.

 

Iran accuses US over diplomat kidnapping in Baghdad

  • The Times Online reported that Iran blamed America for the "terrorist" kidnapping of a Iranian diplomat in Baghdad today.

 

Blair urges Iran to change its ways, but says no military action planned

  • The International Herald Tribune reported that Prime Minister Tony Blair told lawmakers Tuesday that no military action is planned against Iran, but that international opinion is hardening against Tehran.

 

Come to your senses, Emir begs Iran

  • The Times Online reported that the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Sabah raised fears that the Gulf could be dragged into a new confrontation unless Iran satisfied the world that it was not seeking to build an atomic bomb.

 

Bringing Ahmadinejad to Justice

  • FrontPageMagazine.com reported on an ‘Urgent Appeal’ to bring the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to trial before the newly created International Criminal Court – and for Iran to respond before the UN Security Council.

 

Can There Be a Liberal Iraq?

  • Bret Stephens, The Wall Street Journal interviewed Mithal al-Alusi the former director general in Iraq's De-Baathification Commission. In 2004 Mithal al-Alusi attended a counterterrorism conference in Israel. Upon his return to Baghdad he was stripped of his job and threatened with arrest for violating a Baath-era law forbidding contact with the Jewish state.
