Illegal Immigration Driving Increase in Poverty, Reports Pew Hispanic Center
Federation for American Immigration Reform ^ | Feb. '07 | staff

A new report issued by the Washington D.C.-based Pew Hispanic Center confirms what most Americans already knew: the influx of unskilled illegal aliens is driving the increase in poverty in the United States. A virtually unlimited supply of labor will inevitably depress wages and working conditions. Moreover, because a large share of illegal aliens entering the U.S. labor market is unskilled and lacks formal education, there is little possibility it will even move.

Thus, a massive amnesty promoted by President Bush and leading congressional Democrats would only fuel greater poverty and income disparity in America.

The Pew research also belied assertions by the illegal advocacy network that these workers contribute more in taxes than they use in services. At an average annual income of about $15,000 workers - legal or illegal - pay virtually nothing in taxes.

Despite all relible social and economic studies (beginning with the very comprehensive and thorough analysis by Robert Rector of Heritage) we stll hear the same old mantra from the open-borders lobby. Even though it's been proved beyond doubt that illegals cost our economy FAR more in social services and public benefits than is contributed.

The dems use these poverty figures to push their social agendas, too. They always say "Americans" when speaking of this class; never do mention the millions of illegals.

And this is one reason why I support Duncan Hunter.

The Poverty (pimp) Service Industry is one of the largest employers in the country and of Democrats. Help save this great American industry! Support illegal immigration!

Sarcasm off.

Also illegals keep the wages of American working class down so that the professional trade guild class can have cheaper nannies, gardeners, house painters, waiters and other serfs. This makes both the ruling Democrat and Republican elites live more kingly lives then they would.

Yes, but this is the Pew (pee-you) bunch. It must be MUCH WORSE than anyone thought, if a bunch of liberals like Pew are saying this.

Ill have to read the Pew Hispanic report before I believe the obviously biased FAIRs take on it. A more believable title for a study from Pew Hispanic would be: "Illegal Aliens Cause More Pretty Rainbows and Happy Puppies."

You are wasting your time blaming democrats for illegals.

Republicans except for a couple of exceptions are just as bad. The President himself seems to as much at fault ans anyone. He could stop this nonsene, but he choose not to. he closes the borders to Iran and leaves ours wide open.

Not only that, but they are increasing the CO2 problem.

Think about it. 30 million illegals who have recently left their pristine nonpolluting countries arrive to in the US and the first thing they do is buy an automobile. Not a new energy efficient one, but a smoke-blowing polluting one.

In addition, they require massive amounts of electric generation. More polluting.

In the name of Al Gore we need to round up these polluters and return them to their low CO2 producing countries before it's too late.

All these illegals are also new clients for the welfare state and govt union workers.
This report also documents the conversion of the US into a third world socialist country.

I look at Duncan Hunter as a man who could greatly influence all that is wrong with the GOP, even if he's not the GOP candidate in 08. I hope he is.

Did you notice that the anti-immigrant group FAIR didn't let you see the Pew Report.

I guess we will just have to take their word for it.

...what most Americans already knew...

At some level, but the idea that more illegals = more poverty is too delicate an issue for the MSM to bring to our tender ears. Therefore it isn't discussed in the public sphere, and is no where else except around the kitchen table.

Put poverty + immigration in Google and you'll find no MSM sites, rather mainly anti-immigration organizations and conservative think tanks. Put poverty + america, or urban, etc. you'll find plenty of MSM mentions.

As far the as the MSM is concerned, immigration is just as wonderful as could be, but if only there was more.

The multitudes at FR who claim "we are opposed only to illegals" always start aquirming when you point out FAIR's agenda.
