I predict in the not too distant future, organ donation will become mandatory.

Tell me about it...I read that the Netherlands is considering legalizing euthanasia in cases of mental illness. God help us

----
And why not harvest their organs for those citizens more deserving while they're at it.

what is next? Using bits of the arms and legs of parapalegics because they don't need them anymore?

I can see someone making that case in a few years.

"And why not harvest their organs for those citizens more deserving while they're at it."

In Holland, that would be considered a very pragmatic statement!

There's a little known law in Texas that says after you have been confirmed dead the state takes your corneas whether you like it or not.

Actually I think it is very close to Animal Farm by George Orwell. The horse would say, "I will work harder, Napoleon is always right." In the end, when he could no longer work, he was sold to the renderer.

Can't take it with you...

But it really sucks if they take it away while you still need it!

I'm taking mine with me.

Once upon a time, I was an organ donor, and I certainly believe in the concept. Unfortunately, the rush to harvest has become so demanding, lucrative and, in my opinion, unethical, that I fear there is a hastening of death to get the organs. On one hand, it saves the hospital and the insurers money if we just cooperate and kick off quickly and, on the other hand, they make money on the fresh organs of the deceased.

So they aren't getting anything from me. A lot of people feel the same way, and it's a real shame.

Maybe their legs, I think they are still using the arm parts...

Oh , Brave New World ! Every day we inch closer to closer to the world in Arthur C Clarke's novel

I used to be scared of becoming a 1984 Orwellian world.

Now that it has happened, I am scared of becoming a Brave New World.

"I'm taking mine with me."

Everyone profits on the deal except the estate of the person providing the part(s) without which the process would not be possible. Mine can be purchased at market value . . . or they go with me.

Never considered that angle, but I'll bet you are right. Conserving natural resources so to speak. Personally, they are more than welcome to mine when I'm dead. But it hopefully will remain a choice.

That's funny. A lot of the people here in Cleveland are nearly brain dead already.
