Okay. Here's my critique: these two live in Madison, which is probably one of the most liberal cities in the US. Also, they cite John Kennedy, how Obama is "just like him". Well, sorry, but JFK was dead four years before the oldest of these two were born. Then the article cites that Obama and JFK's experience are comparable. Wrong again. Obama has two years in the Senate, 7 in a state house seat. Before elected President, JFK had three terms in the US House of Representatives, six in the US Senate, and had run for VP in 1956.

These two are slathered up with more crap than a Christmas turkey. And if they are "lifelong" Republicans, well then I flew to the moon on an Apollo mission.

I agree with the premise of your critique; but JFK merely gave a brilliant keynote address at the 1956 convention and was named as a favorite son candidate of his state, as was customary in those days (states did that in order to hold their delegates in reserve for purposes of "kingmaking"). Estes Kefauver ran for VP that year. Again, this is not to nitpick or to disagree with the rest of what you said (or the sentiment behind it). Just FYI.

If giving a polished speech were all it took to win the White House, George W. Bush would have lost to John Kerry. Remember how W. came across in his first debate? He was awful.

For as long as I can remember, the media has carried the water for Democrat candidates. Yet we've only had one Democrat president in the last quarter of a century and two in the last forty years.

Ultimately, this election, like every other presidential election, will come down to ideas. Obama's wonderful when it comes to speaking in generalities ("solving poverty") - but when it comes to putting forth specific ideas, he's burdened with the same tried and failed notions that have plauged Democratic candidates for decades.

That said, take Obama seriously. The stakes are too high for any of us to sit this one out.
