Ron Nehring, a conservative from San Diego County, was elected chairman of the California Republican Party Sunday at the close of its state convention in Sacramento.
Nehring, who works with the national conservative activist Grover Norquist, succeeds chairman George "Duf" Sundheim, a Silicon Valley attorney, who was a close ally of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Tom Del Beccaro, a conservative attorney from Contra Costa County, was elected vice chairman.
Two resolutions aimed at the new fees included in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan for universal health care failed to get out of a committee because there was no quorum.
FRom the FRying pan into the FiRe, the travails of the Ca GOP continue.. nowhere to go but up, Right?
Is this Duncan the RINO Hunter county?
Nehring headed up the GOP efforts in San Diego county, the same area Duncan's district is located in.
I hope Nehring doesn't turn out to be another Sundheim.
He probably won't be calling for a "purple" party in the near future--at least I hope not.
works w/ Grover Norquist?
Not that I CAIR to question the judgment of the leadership and those they associate with, but Hey, what can I say , the inclination to do so goes with the PajamaHeddin badge. ;-)
Reason to watch closely, for sure. The fact those resolutions couldn't make it through committee is frustrating as all get out! But I assume this was the prior committee and there may be some turnover with the new 'leadership'?
Maybe you or someone can help me out but only part of the party reps were at this convention, 600 and some, if I'm not mistaken. The "results" don't surprise me in the least regardless.
I think that's accurate. And the article states the resolution didn't make it out of "committee", which represents a much smaller group of folks (I assume they are referring to the 'Executive Committee', the same committe that blocked resolutions to Oppose Prop 84, and a host of other resolutions). IIRC, in addition to elected representatives, it also includes a bunch of appointees of the Chairman.
"Is this Duncan the RINO Hunter county?"
??????????????????
I am not familiar witht the California Republican Party by laws. In Arizona the State Executive Committe consists of the elected State Officers, the elected County Chairman, and two vice chairs, and two elected delegates at large from each congressional district. The State Executive Committee has not discussed any resolutions in any Executive Committee meeting I've attended.
The resolutions are put together by an appointed resolutions committee, they don't vote on the resolutions they just author them, and add resolutions submitted by individuals, or groups, and submit them to be voted on by the body of the elected state delegates.
Thanks. I did miss that key word "quorum" which makes a big difference.
It sounds like your party still follows rules. We have had recent events wherein the committee totally disregards the bylaws for what appears to be some alternative purpose. I mentioned Prop 84, but Prop 90 (Eminent Domain) was another one. Here is a link demonstrating some of the shenanigans... scroll down to the colored font entries.

Yes we pretty much follow the by laws. There are more establishment Republicans on the Executive Committee than I would like, but they are in the minority.
