I hate it for her, really, as a Lubbock and Dallas gal, and a long-time Lloyd Maines and Maines Bros., AND Chicks fan (even prior to the mouthy one). She did at least seem subdued in light of the purely political vote. There were many more worthy tonight.
"Boston" should have one Best New Artist that year, not the "one hit wonder".
umm...I can't stand the Dixie Chicks (because I hate country music with a passion), but to say they only won the award because they 'bashed Bush' is not anywhere close to true.
Let us recap, shall we?
Their latest album debuted at the #1 spot in both the Country and Pop category. The album went gold in the first week, and it has now gone double platinum in the US and 5X Platinum in Canada.
They have also been the only female group to have three albums debut at #1 each time.
And finally, it was the 9th best selling album in the US for 2006.
Exactly.
I don't give two flyings $hits about what some lousy award show says is good music. In fact, the overwhelming majority of music I listen to would never be featured on such an award show.
Let them have a gaudy, gold-plated piece of junk. It's not the end of the world.
Basically on that last Album of the Year Award natalie admitted she was being given these things and felt bad for those other artists caught up in it.... I feel sick for the other nominated artists. Some of them were robbed. No way had this not been a political calling would they have won 4 awards.....
Their album was such a smashing success ... they had to cancel their tour due to lack of ticket sells
I dunno, you say no, but it sounds like yes.
... the Chili Peppers? Blood Sugar Sex Magik was 1990, and that was their crowning achievement. That's 17 years ago. Imagine it's 1967 and you're citing music from 1950 to aver the vitality of Rock 'n Roll,
For the record: according to the Recording Industry Association of America -- the organization that certifies record sale totals -- The DixChix have only sold between one and two million Taking The Long Way CDs. This is in contrast to their breakthrough work, 1988's Wide Open Spaces, which sold over 12 million copies. I've laid out all the numbers on the CD sales here.
The numbers on the documentary Shut Up & Sing are even more amusing. Not only was the film a flopporooni, grossing only $1.2 million over three months in theaters (only reaching as many as 91), on this past January 22 the movie had a microscopic daily gross of $825.00! That means Shut Up & Sing -- hyped to the hills on national television news and Oprah -- sunk as low as taking in $36 per showing that day. The film is out on DVD February 20.
The Dixie Chicks are not talent-deprived, although I never dug them aside from the aesthetics of sisters Emily and Martie. But come freakin' on, folks -- this is the most obvious sympathy vote since Elizabeth Taylor won an Academy Award for Butterfield 8.
I meant 1998.
Like watch last night's Extreme Home Makeover about 9/11 hero, Marine Sgt. Jason Thomas, which was a hell of a lot more deserving of viewers.
Same was true of Col. North's War Stories and Hannity's America. Thanks Tivo!
Still, I was speechless at just how much smarter the tinsel trolls really DO think they are than the rest of us.
I mean, the Dixie Chicks win their third of three Grammys and one of the next presenters is Al frickin' Gore?
The Grammys aren't about politics though. Honest.
Stupid liberals who give other stupid liberals awards.
*yawn*
This is another rub it in the face of conservatives award that the liberals love to hand out, whether the person or group deserved the award or not. Just as long as they say or do something that annoys conservatives. Are you primed for the academy award that Al Gore will get? He and his now balding head handed out an award tonite at the Grammy's, even though, to my knowledge, he has no CD out or any musical talent that I've ever heard of. He was their political statement for the night, along with the Dixie Chick awards.
No humor intended...I take it there was an award show? Well, guess I must not be in their demographic...I have some intelligence and a life.
Exactly. Hollywood gave them that award. Nashville didn't.
My kids grandmother. She likes to spoil them. I call those Grammy awards.
