Everyone remembers how on the day Barack Obama announced his presidential candidacy, the MSM was awash with stories of how he is on the "far left" of social issues. Or not.
Not only does Obama support partial birth abortion, as an Illinois state senator he twice voted against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. Read the disturbing details here. This record clearly puts him to the extreme port side of the political spectrum on social issues. But a special prize to the first reader who spots any description of Obama as "far left" in the media.
But it's a whole different MSM ball-game when it comes to labelling Republicans. Literally within minutes of his official announcement this morning, MNSBC applied the "far right" tag to Mitt Romney. MSNBC host Chip Reid's guest to kibitz on the announcement was former Wonkette Ana Marie Cox, who according to her Wikipedia entry was once an editor of an online Marxist magazine.
View video here.
Said Reid: "He's a flip-flopper. He was pro-choice, and he was to the left of Ted Kennedy on gay rights in Massachusetts, and now he's to the far right."
Reid prefaced his observation by saying: "He's barely out of the starting blocks and I'm going to go right for his knees." Give Reid full marks for candor. But where is the fairness? Again, when is the last time the MSM labelled any of the major Dem presidential candidates "far-left" on anything?
Aside: as you'll note from the screencap, Reid's "going for the knee caps" comment provoked considerable mirth and hilarity in Cox.

Far-right-Romney ping to Today show list.
I'm sure he looks that way...to someone like Bill Arkin.
If only it were true.
You know, though, I might settle for a candidate who is viewed by the liberal media as being on the far right. It's much better than being "moderate," which really means "far leftwing nutcase."
MSNBC: On Far-Left!!!
One of the best things Mitt Romney has going for him is that the media seems genuinely unhinged about him, and their RINO-radar is better than ours.
Not mine :)
"...now he's to the far right."
Well, if they mean "of Kennedy," they may be right.
But then again, most sentient beings are to the far right of Kennedy.
In the current client of left wing surge, I am happy to hear someone is "far right." Of course Romney isn't if we go by the classic definitions of "far right." But he'll do.
'Rats. RINOs. No diff.
Funny, I've always seen him as a lib republican.
I understand that many FReepers would welcome a truly conservative candidate. But to the majority of the general electorate, "far right" is obviously a pejorative. This was MNSNB's way of attempting to undermine Romney right out of the gate.
SOS. The RAT candidate are enlightened geniuses and the Republican candidates are caving-dwelling morons.
To quote one of their funny jokes, he's right -- FAR right!
Whether Romney qualifies as "far right" is debatable, but if MSNBC is pushing that line, it shows that they are afraid of him. So I think that he deserves serious consideration at the least.
Plus, Ann Coulter has had some good things to say about him, which DEFINITELY speaks well of him in my book.
The anchors, reporters, etc. are leftists. All their friends are leftists. All their co-workers are leftists. All the members of their families are leftists.
Every one they know shares their views and opinions. Because of this, they think their views and opinions are "mainstream", middle-of-the-road.
This is why they refer to gun-grabbing RINO Rudy Giuliani as "moderate".
And this is why anyone and everyone to the right of them will be described as "far right", or "extreme".
