Norwood received a single lung transplant in 2004 as treatment for IPF, and developed non-small cell lung cancer in 2005.

Sounds like he didn't have much of a chance. Shame. RIP, Congressman Norwood.

The Speaker throughout the House impeachment proceedings and the late-1998 vote was Newt Gingrich. Livingston was Speaker-designate, and would not have become Speaker until January 3, 1999 (at which time Newt's speakership would end). What Livingston announced on the day of the impeachment vote was that he would not stand for Speaker on Jan. 3, and within 24 hours Dennis Hastert had the votes to become Speaker-designate. I do not believe that Congressman Norwood was ever mentioned as a candidate to replace Newt as Speaker.

I had a liver transplant in 2004, I now have lung cancer as well - for the same reason. It's called "immune system" cancer - when you are immune suppressed because of the drugs you take to not reject, this often happens. May he rest in peace.

"Whatever happened to that Dem Senator? How is he voting? Is he even cognizant?"
Psst... Is a [D] senator with a transplanted [R] brain still a [D]? He is resting and convalescing.

What happened was that Carnahan died in a plane crash. His name was left on the ballot and MO voters were told that if they voted for Mel, the acting governor would appoint his wife. Carnahan was about as bad and mean a partisan as one could find in MO.

A good solid conservative with love for his nation, our military and good ideas on SS, Medicare et al. He will be missed. See how the Dems scramble to win his seat in Ga.

Who the hell cares right now. Is this now a "Your representative is sicker than our rep" thread?

Perhaps you would feel better; if you moved to a 'prayer-thread only'. . .

Some of us do not check our humanity at the door to do so.

You should be careful not to overstate your case here. . .but as suggested to BritExPatInFla ; perhaps you too, could handle this better, if on a 'prayer thread only' for Charlie. . .

Not really sure who exactly you are to tell me how I should state my case. If you want to take the position that it is not crass and uncouth to discuss the political implications of a person's death BEFORE YOU STATE your sympathy, as this poster did, than more power to you.

I would like to think Conservatives are better than that and do not need a specific thread title to instruct us to act in a civilized and respectful manner.

'Not sure who exactly you are to tell me how I should state my case here. . .I would like to think Conservatives are better than that and do not need a specific thread title to instruct us to act in a civilized and respectful manner.'

Have seen plenty of uncivilized threads; did not think this particularly, one of them; nor the comments/questions offered. Save that is, for what appeared to me, a tone being interjected (albeit, not exclusively) by your taking it upon yourself to 'so specifically rebuke and instruct' another poster to meet your assumed criteria for responding in a voice - civilized and respectful.

IMHO. . .a hammer to gnat response or just the incongruity of the over-correction; a 'harshly sensitive voice' demanding a greater measure of sensivitivity from another poster which by turn, creates it's own dissonance; if not a rudeness, beyond what one imagines he is correcting.

When people crudely or rudely by choice of the 'verbally crass'; pick at someone's ill-fortune; particularly while a positive outcome is still uncertain; we can expect appropriate critical interjections. . .but IMHO; this was not the case.

. . .All to say really; and not unkindly - and only for clarification; that the question you ask of me above, as to 'who. . .?'; is itself; an answer to your own rebuke. Both times. (Suffice to say, at this point - that I may have worked my way into my own 'over-correction' here. . .) So that said. . .and meantime. . .

I do wish Charlie Norwood 'God Speed' because he was a fine Representative and a good man; a painful loss to those who knew and loved him; a genuine loss to Georgia Republicans - of which I am one; and to non-Georgia Republicans as well.

Thank you! I need them for sure. I am lucky (if there is such a thing). Right now I am staged 1A the earliest stage which happens rarely with this type of cancer - I've had surgery already and starting chemo soon. I'm going to kick it.
