Hillary needs Guiliani to be the Ross Perot of 2008.

Hillary Satan Clinton lecturing The Mayor on Jesus' status as a homeless person.

One of these was a staunch warrior for welfare reform while the other does an Exorcist Linda Blair imitation to cover her Iraq position.

I realize that, by making such a nonsensical statement, that you are oblivious to the importance of guns for self-defense,

As a gun owner myself you obviously speak out of your a**.

Actually, 1 term into Rudy's administration I felt safer in downtown Manhattan than I do sometimes in hicksville Tennessee.

For self defense, it's more important to own a weapon in a rural setting IMHO. Never felt I needed one in NYC.

I just heard him say that he was in agreement with concealed carry, in accordance with local licensing laws.

Funny, he turned the screws on local NYC permit holders. Folks who had permits for many years. Folks who never had their guns taken away by the likes of Koch and Dinkins.

So pardon us if we don't believe his utterances on this subject now. There was NO REASON to take those permits away, but Rudy did it anyway, because he is so anti-gun and anti-self-defense at heart.

Other than he is not a Black Muslim, what is the difference between Obama and Guiliani?

Obama is a hyper liberal. What a stupid comparison...

I disagree, without Rudy in the front spot on the ticket... a Ross Perot type is probably not necessary for her to win

As a 2nd-Amendment and concealed-carry activist, I despise those who pretend that Rudy isn't a gun-grabber. He took guns away from long-term permit holders.

Ronald Reagan is the yardstick -- if you don't measure up, then you're not a conservative.

Let's see...Reagan signed a major tax increase bill in 1986; supported the Brady Bill; signed a bill granting amnesty (REAL amnesty) to illegal immigrants; bugged-out of Lebanon when the Marine barracks were destroyed by Hezbullah; found ways to work with the Democrat-controlled Congress; as governor signed the most liberal abortion law in the nation at that time.

I love and revere Ronald Reagan, and enthusiastically voted for him three times for President (including '76 when he ran against Ford), but by the standards of Les Miserables on FreeRepublic, Reagan was a "RINO."

I think M. Thatcher has part of your answer in Post 55.

Maybe, but it's hard to say. Giuliani lives in that liberal Manhattan bubble that Democrat presidential candidates, university presidents, foundation chairs, and network anchormen disappear into when they retire. I don't know that he's got much contact with or connection to the grassroots GOP.

Actually, you're not quite correct on that one.

Much of the anxiety over Giuliani on the part of Freepers like me is based on our fear that he could very well win an election -- by running as a Democrat in every sense except his party affiliation.

If you really have to ask that, you're either not paying attention, or you're terminally stupid.

Is Giuliani a conservative?

Only in an alternate Universe.

Duncan Hunter is an UNKNOWN who will get KILLED in a general election, ala Goldwater. Stop living in some type of delusional fantasy world.

About half the country doesn't own guns, so the issue doesn't reonate with everyone. Of course on the F.R. you think anyone without a gun must be a liberal?!

what GOP candidate will be able to hold the party together and draw Reagan Dems back into the party with a pro-life and pro-gun platform?

That ain't no such animal, except Giuliani.

Read the d*** column again! If Rudy comes across to you as a dyed-in-the-wool liberal, your discernment is severely impaired.

The GOP is going for broader appeal this time. Conservatives could unite around some barely known candidate and lose, big time. I don't like it, but that's the way things are now.

That's what I have been saying as well. We don't have a choice or we will lose the WH in 2008 and with that we will not take back and the House and Senate. There has to be a broader appeal especially after 2006 when we got scorched in a lot of states by low Republican voter turnout. There is no Conservative that was groomed to appeal to a large segment of the voting population.

So we pick the candidate that can reach out and bring in the votes because if we don't win in 2008, we will be in the minority for years to come IMO not to mention the #1 issue -- support for our military and the WOT will take a direct hit. I remember too well how the Clintons dismantled a lot of our military.
