Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy told senators Wednesday that Congress has neglected judicial pay, harming morale among judges and threatening to undermine judicial independence.
The current salary level for judges "is insufficient to attract the finest members" of the legal profession to accept appointments to the bench, Kennedy said during a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Kennedy picked up on an issue that Chief Justice John Roberts recently called a "constitutional crisis."

Retire Anthony, I'd take your seat in a half a heart beat.
Considering most have a job for life and make more than most of the population, I wouldn't whine about it.
Thanks for the post. I needed a laugh today!!!!

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to read the US Constitution, that's why it's not a requirement that a supreme court justice even be a lawyer. Maybe he wants someone who's a little more creative.
Cry me a river.
What's he whining about? The man is way overpaid.
The man is way overpaid.
Kennedy would be overpaid if he was paying us.
Go back to teaching law school, then.
That's a confidence builder. Why not just let them ambulance chase on weekends? Or do they already?
The SCOTUS is suffering from low morale and judicial independence because of low pay? How much does it cost to buy judicial independence?
The last time I watched the appointment process, money was not even mentioned.
If Kennedy is unhappy about his pay, he can always get another job.
Not a bad gig!!!! What's he whining about?
Me too. I mean, I also. Their pay per hour? Their willingness to break early and often?
I hope the entire Ninth Circuit quits in despair.

I think he should quit...that will show them....(fingers crossed, toes crossed....clutching rabbits foot...rubbing 4 leaf clover)
Maybe Anthony Kennedy, JP Stevens, Ruth Ginsburg, David Souter and some of the other "finest minds" in the legal profession will retire and go make more money somewhere else. Yippee Ki Yay.
LOL
Rehnquist complained about the pay almost every year in his annual report.

Armed guards are a neat bene as well.
Heck, fire the 9th circus. The legal qualilty will improve, and we can spend the $$ on lawyers with room temp IQs.
