(Walter) Mondale's boyhood home is on eBay

How much will someone pay for a humble, small-town home that sheltered a future senator, vice president and presidential candidate?

Lorrie Krosch is hoping to find out.

She is selling the boyhood home of Walter Mondale in Elmore, Minn., on eBay. Starting bid: $50,000.

"When I bought it, it was so run-down it could have been knocked down," said Krosch, who bought the house at 208 E. Mondale St. in 2003 for $15,000. She spent more than three years refurbishing it, doing most of the work herself.

It looks like a cute house. What do houses go for around there?

That house kinda reminds me of the house of grandma and grandpa owned in rural Wisconsin.

Even though I grew up in the suburbs and now live in the city, I spent a lot of summers in that small town in Wisconsin.

I've always thought that if I had the chance, I wouldn't mind returning to live in a small town.

Same here. I did a Mapquest.com check.

Elmore is as close as you get to Iowa w/o actually stepping foot in that state.

The town and the neighbors might be charming, but I couldn't force myself to live on Mondale Street in any town.

I'd pay 50,000 for it.

Very nice. I would buy it. I love old houses. Besides, as insignificant as Walter Mondull is, the house was probably glad when he moved out.

Same here. If I bought it, I would petition the town council to change the name of the street.

I'd submit the petition, wait to see the new street sign go up, and then bid on the house. I suggest Reagan Court as a suitable replacement for the underwhelming Mondale Street.

That would be more fitting for Clinton's boyhood home.
