Check out this genius from the Floor of the House on the War Debate.
Mr. Speaker, it is time to pull our troops out . . . . The longer we stay in . . . the more chance we have of being sucked into another Vietnam in that region. The longer we stay in . . . the less credibility we have with neighbors in the hemisphere that we are a nation of peace, not an invading force.
Mr. Speaker, we can argue another day about how our troops got [there], but I do not think anyone wants them to stay there. That is why the troops have to come home now-not by Christmas Eve when the War Powers Act would require them to come home. Our troops must come home now. Therefore, if given the opportunity I intend to offer an amendment to the fiscal year . . . Defense appropriations bill that would require that our troops be pulled out . . . 15 days after the President signs the appropriations bill. That is more than enough time for an orderly withdrawal....We have run out of excuses for remaining . . . . It is time to come home.
Amazing dumb isn't it? Even more so when you realize it was Congressman Ed Markey talking abut the invasion of Grenada back in 1983. I've got the unedited text, without the ellipses, below the fold. You can see for yourself how minor the edits were.
Funny how Democrat war debates never change.
Mr. Speaker, it is time to pull our troops out of Grenada. All the Americans who wanted to leave that country have been evacuated-and evacuating endangered citizens was the only valid purpose for being in that country.
All major resistance to the U.S. invasion of Grenada has ended The longer we stay in Grenada the more chance we have of being sucked into another Vietnam in that region. The longer we stay in Grenada, the less credibility we have with neighbors in the hemisphere that we are a nation of peace, not an invading force.

That is why the troops have to come home now-not by Christmas Eve when the War Powers Act would require them to come home. Our troops must come home now. Therefore, if given the opportunity I intend to offer an amendment to the fiscal year 1984 Defense appropriations bill that would require that our troops be pulled out of Grenada 15 days after the President signs the appropriations bill. That is more than enough time for an orderly withdrawal....We have run out of excuses for remaining in Grenada. It is time to come home.
PING (let me know if you want me to stop PINGING you all ;-) LOL
Next time we decide to have a war we really do have to lock these pukes up in a prison somewhere. I cannot encourage "W" too much to REOPEN POINT LOOKOUT!
Good God.
Outstanding find.
Yeah, Vietnam was a war the Dems lost.
Ed Markey is just about the biggest horse's ass I have ever met or heard. Figures he's from Massachusetts. That's one of the reasons I left the Bay State 30 years ago.
Forget not, fellow Freepers, the new state motto of MA: "No tax is too big; no outrage is too small; and no sacrifice is necessary."
Thanks, Mr. Markey, for all of your valuable service.
The Democrats did not lose Vietnam. They were fighting for the enemy and won.
Excellent.
The Song Remains The Same
They yearn for the old days....

Well, I am glad to know they were wrong then and they are wrong again.
Does anyone EVER figure out, tho, that liberals are just plain stupid when it comes to war and foreign affairs????
Forgot to also credit NRO Corner:

John Podhoretz posted the Redstate link with the "Bring them Home" title
Who does Nancy dine with in DC??
THX
Good historical perspective.
At the end of the day it remains the mood of the voting public that determines the will of the attuned politicians; here we are now between elections but on the cusp of an emboldened movement to circle the wagons against outside threats of all manner while ignoring the enemy within and the cook is taking dinner orders before lunch.
I hope every American will hear what Rep. Sam Johnson R-TX just said on the House floor. Rep Johnson was a prisnor in North Vietnam the last time Congress betrayed America`s military. He explodes this lie about "supporting our troops" for the lie that it is. I urge you all to find it and heed his words.
It`s now up to us, we must not let them do this again to our guys. Write, fax, call, Email, and send smoke signals to Congress telling them they must stop cutting the legs out from our troops! (sorry if I got preachy )
I wonder if the American people have any idea who they've turned the Congress over to?
Ya, check out this jpeg, pretty brutal but telling...

The more chance we have of prevailing and that is not acceptable to democrats or the MSM.
What did you think of the clapping? It was very loud and emotional with various interruptions by someone discussing something. The clapping would go down in volume, though the clappers were still visible. This happened a couple of times until the camera finally came back to Sam Johnson sitting down. I had just turned on my TV and missed the beginning of his statement, but what I heard was really powerful.
I actually heard a dem rep say 'This is a war we cannot win. It is time to throw in the towel.' (We are Floyd Patterson and they are Muhammad Ali)
Patrick McHenry said, "We have heard your points. Now give us your plan."
The Democratic Party has no intention to oppose the Jihadi's agenda.
God bless Rep. Sam Johnson. That speech was the highlight of all the debates to date.
Noticed only a few dems stood during his ovation which just goes to show what we're up against.
I salute a true American hero. **==
Washington, Feb 15 -
Today U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson (3rd Dist.-Texas) released the following statement in response to Rep. John Murthas (D-Pa.) plan to cut funding of the troops as a way to end the war in Iraq. Murtha chairs the Defense spending subcommittee.
A 29-year Air Force veteran, Johnson served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Johnson spent nearly seven years as a Prisoner of War, more than half of that time in solitary confinement. Coincidentally, this week in 1973 as one of the longest held captives, Johnson finally left Hanoi on February 12, 1973 and returned home to Texas on February 17, 1973.
"Yesterday, a DC-based publication, The Politico used the term slow bleed to describe the Democrats plan for Iraq.
John Murthas slow-bleed strategy to cut the funds for our guys on the ground isnt a solution, its a shame."
While Democrats have spent the last few days insisting that they dont want to cut funding, John Murtha proposes a plan to do just that. John Murtha wants to hamstring their efforts and pull the rug out from underneath them.
We saw what happened to Vietnam when America cut the funding on the troops in harms way. We lost a lot. The touchstone of a thriving democracy is using our past experiences as learning experiences
and not repeating the mistakes of the past.
We really are turning into a nation of whining weenies, haven't we? How in the world did this happen.
