My question is can planes land on shorter runways with heavy braking.

That approach was always fun in one of ATA's L-10's on a windy day....

Or even scarier was TAKING OFF from that postage stamp in that same L-10 on a HOT day...

I thought they had to gradually slow down. So planes can land and stop on short runways if necessary?

The brakes will overheat if applied to the max for very long.

They could give quite a jolt if applied suddenly for a short time and then max acceleration.

The idea was to make him fall down. It worked.

"Planes landing at Midway also have trap doors on the floor in front of each seat so the passengers can lower their feet to the ground and help brake."

That's true. And most of the time it works. Most of the time.

"How much of a role that braking equipment played in Thursday’s deadly accident wasn’t immediately clear, though, and the investigation is continuing."
