"This reminded me of back in 1994 when then-mayor Giuliani endorsed Mario Cuomo for re-election to Governor of NY over the then-challenger George Pataki and remembering the lambasting he took by the conservatives over that decision."

It wasn't just Conservatives, it was the ENTIRE party, as it was an act of high apostasy by the highest-ranking non-statewide GOP official. Given how long we had been trying to rid NY of that vermin, Giuliani's little stunt could've ensured Cuomo getting another term and extending his reign of error for perhaps 4 or 8 more years. I was up in NYC in the days following the election, and believe me, there was considerable movement to dump Giuliani from the GOP and/or his leaving to join the 'Rats on his own accord.

I believe they're still there, but aren't really active in politics (or only peripherally so). I'm thinking one of our better bets is to look to college students to lead the movement to take over the party. After all, it was those movements within the MA Dems in the '60s and '70s that overthrew many of the old-line Conservative urban machines.

I think the GOP has no chance in 2008 if it nominates one of the big RINO three. An honest conservative is our only shot. If we can't find one of those, then I guess we are completely screwed.

Southern New Hampshire was really red in 2004. Wonder where it came from?

I agree. Clinton co-opted thebtax cut idea from Tsongas with no intention of implementing it. wjc was style and Tsongas was substance as far as the '92 Dems went.

My worry is more along the lines is if Rudy McRomney does win, what damage their Presidency will do to the party and attempts to regain the majority. We already saw what Romney did with the MA GOP, with a "Hey, you're on your own," schtick. If we have a 2010 midterm that resembles Ike's 1958 debacle, we may never see another GOP Congressional majority until the middle of the century (and if that happens, there won't be a United States by then, we couldn't survive it). Hillary's election, ironically, could be the best thing that ever happened to the party, although the pain in the short term would be a mess (but we survived Carter and came out stronger for it). If we can't get that strong Conservative, a RINO would be a fiasco.
