Obama: U.S. ready for black president
By JIM DAVENPORT, Associated Press Writer 13 minutes ago
White House hopeful Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record), taking a fellow black lawmaker to task, said Saturday voters are ready to elect a black president.
"At every turn in our history, there's been somebody who said we can't," the Democratic senator from Illinois told a nearly all-black audience of about 2,000 at Claflin University.
"Some people said we can't do this, we can't do that, so we shouldn't even try. If I have your support, if I have your energy and involvement and commitment and ideas, then I'm here to tell you, 'Yes we can.'"
The comments drew the loudest ovation during a question-and-answer session in his first campaign swing through South Carolina, an early voting state.
The first-in-the-South contest here is seen as a test of candidates' abilities to reach black voters. Half of the state's Democratic primary voters are black.
Obama responded to comments this past week by Democratic state Sen. Robert Ford of Charleston, who helped mobilize black voters for former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards in 2004, but has switched to Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2008 presidential race.
Ford said Tuesday that Obama, a first-term senator, has much to prove. "The media made this guy bigger than life," Ford said. "This guy isn't tested and they made him a rock star."
Ford said one reason he was supporting Clinton, the New York senator, is that he is skeptical Obama can win the presidency and worries his nomination could hurt other Democratic candidates.
"Every Democrat running on that ticket next year would lose because he's black and he's top of the ticket. We'd lose the House and the Senate and the governors and everything," Ford said.

Or Condi Rice
Gosh. He's "All that and a bag of chips" ain't he? *SPIT*
Sorry I was late to the party, but it is ironic how the media neglects to observe how many more Black Americans are welcomed and celebrated in the Conservative movement than the "token" blacks in the Liberal movement.
He's done nothing but align himself with evil:
Here's all any Conservative needs to know about Barrack Hussein Obama:

[Barrack Hussein Obama's record in the Illinois senate:]
- Opposed the Defense of Marriage Act; would work to repeal it in the U.S. Senate; would not vote for any legislation that would restrict the ability of gays and lesbians to marry.
- Opposed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act four times in Illinois. A similar bill passed the U.S. Senate 98-0. The Born Alive bill would have prohibited a baby from being born alive but left to die according to the mother's wishes. Obama inexplicably opposed this bill not once, twice, or three times, but four times.
- Obama took almost $90,000 in bundled contributions from the Council for a Livable World. The council is a well-known anti-defense organization.
- Obama puts rigid ideology before what's best for the people of Illinois, and presumably he would do that as President as well. He has on several occasions made public his opposition to the NAFTA trade agreement and his belief that it must be negotiated. All the while thanks to NAFTA, Illinois exports $1.3 billion in agricultural goods to Canada.
- Obama refused to vote for a bill in the Illinois State Senate that would have increased penalties for drug traffickers.
- Obama voted against a bill that would have delivered the death penalty to gang members who murder first responders.
- Finally, just in case you thought it couldn't get any worse, Obama was the only member of the Illinois State Senate to vote against a bill that prohibited early release for sexual predators.
Cant kill the innocent fast enough, cant free the guilty soon enough!
I don't have a problem with a black US President, but I do have a problem with an antichristian President.
But not its first muzi president.
Yes, I'm ready for a black president too. You mean Tom Sowell, the smartest person in the country, is finally running for president? Who did you say...say it again I didn't quite hear your.... Barack Obama????!! You mean the ultra-lib from Illinois?...surely you just? You're not kidding?......hahahahahahahahahahaha.. Good joke.
Stole my line!
OK...here is the deal:
BARRY ISN'T BLACK.
You sure can fool all the people all the time...just ask Stalin!
I don't have a problem with a black president, but race is not an issue of how I am going to cast my vote. I will vote for the most qualified candidate. Osama wants to make race a part of his resume. I don't give a crap about his skin color, he is not qualified to earn my vote. I believe he is a racist to even bring up his skin color. The photos of people ogling over this dipstick make me want to vomit!
I missed the flow of the conversation, Are we referring to Barack Obama as in the sequel to Reagan's movie, 'Bedtime for Obama', or are we referring to another Barry,...Barry White?, Mayor Barry as in coke peddler extrodianire?...another buriable Barry?
This from the same guy who didn't think Shi'ites were ready for freedom from Saddam.
Does Obama think Iraqis (especially Shi'ites) are subhumans who do not deserve freedom?

Oh, I agree..
Just not, Obama. ;-)

"Obama: U.S. ready for black president
Not now, not forever.
Interesting link.
Americans, well at least many Republicans, were ready for Colin Powell to be President in the last Century.
US ready for first female president --- Condi Rice.
About a week or so ago Obama just got done saying that "if you are black in America, you get treated like you are black". Now he is saying that America is ready to elect a black president. So which is it Obama?
