Neal Gabler called Media Research Center "liars" on this evening's Fox News Watch. The accusation against NewsBusters' parent organization came in the course of a discussion of media coverage of Mitt Romney's announcement of his presidential candidacy.
View video here.
Conservative columnist Jim Pinkerton observed: "I don't think [the media] like Romney. I don't think they really want a Republican to win, and they're using his Mormonism as one way to get at him."
Gabler: "Who's this 'they' you're talking about? This strange 'they' that doesn't want Romney to win?"
Pinkerton: "I can answer that question for Neal. Thank you for asking. Media Research Center counted up the minutes and seconds . . . "
Gabler, interrupting: "A conservative organization?"
Pinkerton: "Yes. They counted up the minutes that CBS News had devoted to Barack Obama's announcement and to Romney's. And the ratio was 54:1. Fifty-four Obama. One Romney."
Gabler: "Figures don't lie, as my father used to say. Liars do figure."
Pinkerton was referring to this MRC CyberAlert which in turn cited this NewsBusters item by Michael Rule. As per the MRC item, the CBS Early show gave Romney's candidacy:
"exactly ten seconds worth of coverage Tuesday, following stories on a Utah mall shooting, winter storms, and the ongoing soap opera of Anna Nicole Smith's demise. However, on Saturday, when Illinois Senator Barack Obama announced his candidacy as a Democrat, CBS's Saturday Early Show previewed it by devoting 9 minutes and 9 seconds (549 seconds) to his decision -- a greater than 54:1 advantage."
Gabler should retract and apologize for his baseless slur.

Gobbler is an ass. A dumb one.
Regards.
Gabler made me quit watching 'Newswatch' all together - he is such a wazoo-aperture.
I cannot understand why nobody on that show has ever leapt out of his chair and beaten gabler within an inch of his worthless life. That's what I feel like doing every time he opens his lying commie mouth. Did everybody see how happy he was about Goebbelsmann getting an NBC news gig? he said something to the effect that it was about time, since all the news outlets are so "right wing".
The Democrat Senate Leader, Harry Reid, is also a Mormon and it is never raised as an issue to question his leadership. Perhaps because he belongs to the politically correct Party.
Gobbler is simply a fraudulent pompous ass, the usual DBM twit pretending to be an intellectual. I stopped watching that show because Gabler is insufferable, and most of the others aren't a lot better (except Cal Thomas, who feels some unfortunate obligation to be polite to dishonest scum like Gabler).
Well, if liars figure, then that explains why Gabler does so much figuring.
And the rest of the media as well.
I find Fox News Watch unwatchable. Jim Pinkerton in an imbecile. He lets Gabler get away with saying anything virtually unchallenged. Cal Thomas is also pretty worthless in a debate. Both flat don't do their homework and end up getting stomped because of their limited knowledge of the issues at hand.
They need a Rush or Malkin or Coulter or Steyn to balance out Gabler.
Saw it. He sounded weak, desperate and irrelevant. An emotional child the way all liberals act.
Yep! I have them on my no watch list because of Gabler.
Gabler is the main reason I don't watch anymore.
Gabler is a liar. The whole show is a bunch of liberals acting like they are above it all.
Imagine Neil Gabler in the uniform of a North Korean army colonel, gleaming shoulder boards and all, and with that kind of absolute life-and-death authority over anyone who displeases him.
Because that's just what Neil's imagining. Right now.
Every time he glances at Cal Thomas.
Being a Mormon to Harry Reid is like being a Catholic to John Kerry. It's a religion of convenience. What difference does it make which religion you profess if you don't abide by the faith it preaches?
Pinkerton: "Yes. They counted up the minutes that CBS News had devoted to Barack Obama's announcement and to Romney's. And the ratio was 54:1. Fifty-four Obama. One Romney."
Gabler: "Figures don't lie, as my father used to say. Liars do figure."
If the ratio is 54:1 which it appears to be according to this article...and the figures don't lie.......well then figures (54:1) must be the truth. It appears to me that he is agreeing to the accuracy of what Pinkerton said and at the same time putting in the jab.
Am I right?
Am I reading this right?
I'm afraid not. He was simply calling MRC liars.
Gabler is a little bitch.
